[Scratch Build] EK-ITX

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

So I just finished up with my Skyline build where I did custom PSU and Drive Bay covers. But I feel like I want to try my hands at a scratch build. I really like EKs water cooling components so I thought I would do a theme build so to speak that works with their components. I've always wanted to do an ITX build where the motherboard laid flat, so that I could have a window top, left, and right.

In order to do this I need a design where the radiators will not block the view of the internals. Tough to do when you are trying to make a small itx case, well, small as possible. My target size was somewhere in the neighborhood of a BitFenix Prodigy. I know I wanted at least 4 fans on radiators for good cooling performance. I also want to be able to fit a decent sized power supply so that I do not have to sacrifice quality for an SFX power supply. So below is the hardware I want to use in this build.

HARDWARE
  • Mobo - ASUS Maximus VIII Impact or Maximus VII Impact
  • CPU - i5 6600k or i5 4690k
  • RAM - Still looking, I'm going to cool these with EK waterblock so as long as its fast and easy to overclock it'll work for me
  • PSU - Corsair RM650
  • Storage - 2 x 250GB 850 Evo or 1 x 500GB 850 Evo
  • GPU - GTX 980ti or Titan, depends on budget

WATER COOLING
  • EK Supremacy Evo - Clear
  • EK Titan Block - Clear
  • EK Memory Block - Clear
  • Rad - 2 x EK-CoolStream PE 240
  • Pump - undecided
  • Res - undecided
  • Tube - hardline
  • Fittings - EK compresssion
  • Fans - 6 x EK-Vardar F4-120

So below is my first run at my design. Still working out some specifics. But basically, I want a uni-body design where the interior dividers slide into 2mm deep grooves in the uni-body. I havn't decided if I want the back panel to be welded in place or not yet. The panels and body will be made out of 5mm think aluminium. I plan to put EK badge logos on the front and the side panels. Also, the design doesnt show it but, the bottom area will be a grill of some sort (probably just a bunch of holes) for the air intake for the radiators. I'd really like to hear feedback from the modders in this community. Potential set backs/issues that might be avoided before I begin construction. The external dimensions are: 250mm x 325mm x 425mm (width x height x depth).

This last one is a size comparison between the Caselabs Mercury S8.
