Which drivers are newer?

According to the AMD web site they list version 15.7.1 as the latest version for AMD graphics cards but according to Microsoft Windows Update for Windows 10, version 15.201.1151.0 as the latest driver. AMD's Evolved Gaming app says that I have an older driver version so I downloaded the latest driver from the AMD web site and installed it, a day or two later Windows Update wants to go ahead and download version 15.201.1151.0. What's going on here? What the latest drivers?

15.7.1 is the latest driver. It's normal for Microsoft to be behind with their driver versions. For this reason, I never let any drivers install via Windows Update. Is Windows Update giving you the option to never install that driver?

I suppose this begs the question of why Microsoft is saying that 15.201.1151.0 is the latest. It's because that's the latest version that THEY have. They're behind, and they usually are. I hope you haev the option to never install any drivers via Windows Update.

OK, so I installed the latest drivers from AMD's web site and my in-game graphics performance took a major hit. World of Warcraft FPS numbers were < 50 FPS. So I took my machine back in time to before I installed the latest drivers from the AMD web site using the System Restore Point I made before I plunged into this mess and then after restoring back to the older drivers Windows Update insists are the latest drivers my World of Warcraft FPS numbers shot up to 80+ FPS.

In other words, the latest drivers on AMD's web site suck.

OK... the Catalyst 15.7.1 driver pack that's on the AMD web site includes AMD driver version 15.20.1062.1004. The version that Windows Update provides is version 15.201.1151.0. According these beta version release notes, driver version 15.201.1151 are the beta drivers. So in other words, Microsoft is feeding users the beta drivers as the default drivers for AMD graphics cards.
