"Dear Steam User,
Steam will soon be priced in South African Rand!

If your Steam wallet has any money in it on November 10th, 2015, your U.S. Dollar balance will be converted to Rand, at a conversion rate dictated by market value at the time of conversion.

To view your account balance, simply log into your Steam client or the Steam website at http://www.steampowered.com. Once you have logged in, you will see your balance in the upper-right corner next to your account name.

Thanks,
The Steam Support Team"

And that most likely means that your games are going to cost a few bucks extra. Because it’s not just a change in currency that’ll be seen on Steam, but the inclusion of the Value Added Tax as well which will result in you paying 14% more for games. And don’t count our ratings board out either. We’ve been lucky so far with the kind of games that are allowed into our borders, but you can also expect the FPB to take a more active role in seeing just which games are allowed across our digital borders, with a suitable age-gating attached to them as well.

yes this is indeed sad news. However I would still avoid platforms like G2A. Had terrible experience with them. Maybe switch over to origin. (shudders at the thought)

I dont know hey, I have had so many mixed reviews about G2A ... some people tell me its the best thing since sliced bread, and others have said avoid it like the plague, but then when you go onto their site they offer that G2A Shield? which could be a bunch of hogwash ... but yeah, sadly no first hand experience?
Had 5 or 6 successful purchases from G2A and thought it was great

Then bought a Diablo 3 expansion CD key , with the G2A shield add on.. key didn't work. After about 3 or 4 days of no refund and a extremely frustrating communication process (they wanted a copy of a email from Blizzard stating when the key was activated and even after providing, no refund) I lodged a Paypal dispute and got my money back.

So the short of it is - the shield add on is a waste of time and if you ever need a refund be prepared to go through Paypal

G2A is super shady, but it does technically offer cheaper keys, fairly consistently, and thus people love it.

The question on everyones minds ....
With the weak rand, and 14% VAT, im going to predict it wont be that much cheaper than buying it from local retailers ...
However, a lot of people say that steam is generally fair when it comes to adjusting prices to regions so IDK .... its only a waiting game really frown.gif

Retailers here charge way more than steam though. I'm expecting cd key sites to make a lot more profit with this change in that case

To be honest TakeALot has often had games cheaper than steam (new games) like GTA V, was about R100 cheaper with preorder, and then was the same price after release, obviously BT Games will cost more, because they are a brick and mortar store. But yes, Humble Bundle will be my place of choice atm....
