enough with the gameworks crap people.
blame it when it is a problem and stop using it as a scapegoat for a dev doing a bad job.
in this case there is obviously something wrong with memory caching, IE something gameworks literally has nothing to do with.

So once they installed more system memory the 6gb of vram was OK? Makes it seems like the system memory is the issue, memory leak I guess? I'm not sure if that could be related to gameworks or not, but I do know that gameworks will get the blame, because gameworks.

Is Black Ops III the game that was free to play for the weekend a little while back on Steam? I can't keep track of all the different COD titles, I wish they would just number the damn things like they used to do.

I doubt they would have a free weekend for a game that hasn't been released yet.

games built for console, its the main system now the large portion of the market is there and we(pc gamers) have to deal with this bs
most developers wont make a different version for each platform.
this was one of the reasons i left these multiplatform/popular games, it affects performance, quality and also the gameplay
so many series ruined in these recent years...only for profit, made for the masses.

Isn't it quite possible the review was stupid enough to turn 4k textures on a 1080p machine? Maxing out Black Ops III may mean enabling 4k textures and details which are not entirely visible at smaller resolutions to begin with.

Once we installed 16 GB RAM in the system, the game ran buttery-smooth with our GTX 980 Ti

8GB is enough for gaming is so 2012-14. It's late 2015 now, time to move on. 8GB cannot last you forever. 16GB DDR3 kits are dirt cheap now. Frankly I spent more on 2x4GB kit in 2014 for my Z77 build then I did last month for 2x8GB for my new build.
