Back to gaming. Suggest a build, 1.5k

Thread Starter
After a break for 5 years, I'm back into PC gaming, and have been out of touch with what's good out there. I have a budget of $1.5k (Expandable to 2k if justified). Looking for all components except for speakers. Help Please!

What is this PC going to be used for and is there any special you want from it?
Any limits on size or weight or anything?

Where are you from and where do you want to shop from.
Some more info would be helpful.

I'll be buying it in the US and it will be used solely for gaming. I want the best gaming performance possible for the price.

One dream machine for you, hot and fresh. $2000. It's worth it to spend the extra money.

Why X99? Why not? It's like $40 extra for 2 whole extra physical cores and 7MB more of L3 cache. You can't go wrong.

The motherboard has won Tom's Hardware's most recommended award for X99 motherboards.

This is the kind of machine I would build for myself. The case offers the best potential airflow over components where it matters of any available case and is a dream to build in. I'd love to have this machine myself quite honestly.

The EVGA SuperNova G2 is both fully modular as well as cheaper and better so a Seasonic G at that price is a bad idea.
And the Corsair H100i is overrated overhyped and overpriced and you get air coolers that are better and more quiet for a lower price.

Same story with the case a Phanteks Enthoo is a better case for the same amount of money.
But importantly of all its missing a monitor.

So do you need a KB, mouse, and a monitor or do you already have those? That will be a big factor in your budget.

I have a keyboard and mouse, but I will need a good monitor.

The G2 is not particularly better than the SSR. They are both gold rated power supplies. H100iGT is no better than an NHD15 but it's also a lot less unsightly and easier to work with.

The Phanteks Ethoo is only subjectively better than the 540 and it depends who you ask. I personally like the 540 better. If they were buses, they'd both get you where you were going.

I sort of agree with you on the PSU but the other stuff is just a matter of opinion and preference.

The monitor alone is going to take a chunk of the $2000

It is missing a monitor, and I already have windows + no need of an optical drive.
