MSI Radeon R9 390 Drivers won't Install Properly - Page 2

Hey guys,

Sorry was out of town for a couple of days.

Yeah that's the issue I'm having with the drivers not installing properly. I don't have access to the CCC it's like going through the entire installation process but then does absolutely nothing afterwards (i.e. does not request to reboot the PC and I have no CCC or the capacity to launch any games).

Going to control panel > uninstall programs

Only thing I find AMD related is AMD catalyst control manger.

Under:

Computer > Local Disk C:

I do find an AMD file however which makes this all the more odd.

It's as if the drivers have installed but only superficially?

~Thanks

Here is a shot of right click:

I'm also noticing that despite "installing" the drivers web pages and panels still stutter about as if the drivers were not installed (sorry did not mention that earlier).

Welcome back tongue.gif,

Well Im trying to imagine where the problem might be, at the moment seems like the drivers is the one giving the problems with detecting the R9 390 and actually make it work. Lets try something else.

Do a clean install as I showed you before, but this time try installing this driver

AMD Catalyst™ Display Driver version 15.15.1004

I read that the R9 390 is actually causing problems on windows 7 if you try using other versions, but we need to 1st make sure that you can have the card working with the drivers thumb.gif

I can't guarantee this will work but we have to do it and see rolleyes.gif

Bahumbug!

Hit finish, manually rebooted and still nothing.mad.gif

Nvidia 9600 GT(died due to fan burnout) > Nvidia GTX260 (sold) > Ati HD5850 (sold) > Nvidia GTX650 (gave to my brother) > Ati R9 390 (censored)

Edit: Okay so a google search and I've come to the same conclusion.

2 Edit: Title of topic changed.

Wait, so you installed the drivers 15.15 and still nothing? by now you should be able to see something like this

But I will quote someone that was actually trying to solve this issue, from the official amd community.
Possible solution (Click to show)

The Issue Is The Catalyst Software - Surprise

Follow these steps and I hope they do as they have done for me.
1) Download, Install, and then take out all NVIDIA and AMD Drivers with this software..... http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html
2) Uninstall Catalyst Software and any other AMD Affiliated Programs in Programs
3) Reboot and then go to Device Manage / Display
4) Make sure it shows a Windows Generic Driver
5) Download AMD Driver 15.15.1004 and only unpack the package...........
6) Go into Device Manager/Display then Update Driver
7) Point to the directory where you unpacked the AMD Driver Package (It should report properly R9 390)
8) If you have went from Nvidia to AMD, make sure No NVIDIA Program is set to boot up by disabling...
9) Reboot your PC as potentially as I experience GTA V still saw the Nvidia EVGA 660TI by changing default settings to a suggested setup for the R9 390 2.3GB Vram and reporting exceeds the Nvidia 660TI 2GB.
10) After rebooting. been playing without one issue with my test for now 3.25hrs straight.......

The Catalyst Software is obviously with settings doing something that GTA V does not like...... I can not state exactly what it is, but the Catalyst Program IS TO BLAME......

Tell me if this works rolleyes.gif I will keep looking for more info on this.

Yes that's the failed attempt trying to install drivers 15.15. thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

Do you by any chance know how do this step?

5) Download AMD Driver 15.15.1004 and only unpack the package...........

I'm currently Googling it but nothing is coming up that's very clear cut on the topic.

Edit: Started a topic earlier myself in AMD support:

Well the way i did it was, download the CCC, once you have it, you click open it, and then it's going to extract all the info on one folder, after the extraction is completed then the CCC Auto Installer will open, but you dont need it, close it.

Then go to the folder in which you extracted the files, and there you have it.

mine was located in C:\AMD

Im adding this, it's like a mini guide, pretty much the same as the last one i told you

Guide

Dirt Rally max settings (including multisampling):

Godspeed to ya man. wink.gif

Edit: Forgot to turn off Vsync but I tested again and the max came out into the mid 90's. smile.gif

Update:

Okay so just recently updated to their new drivers that came out a week ago (15.300.1025.0) and it appears everything is stable. However, I found that my initial benchmark of Dirt Rally was wrong (not all the settings were maxed out).

Here is everything maxed out with the exception of multi-sampling which is set to 8 x MSAA:

In all honesty, a bit bummed out that with so much Vram I was not able to max the game out fully (really was anticipating this card to knock this game down).

Having said that, even at current levels it looks amazing.

Sigh, what's a guy gotta do to rule over all games!rolleyes.gif
