Luckily I use Comcast Business (home and office are on the same service) and I doubt they will start capping businesses,

I wouldn't be so quick to assume that. I live in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, PA & literally had no land based ISP available to my house till about 2 yrs ago. The 2 providers in my area are Comcast & Verizon. Verizon brought their fios service all the way to within a 1/4 mile of my house but refused to bring it any further, everybody else on my street has them as an ISP but us. Comcast residential also was within a 1/4 mile of my house & also refused to bring their service any further to add us. Finally the guy who owns a business up my road some got sick of Verizon & called Comcast business. We called them when we found this out & they sent a rep out to our house. What he told us was that all ISPs budget a certain amount for new installs & what it would cost to bring it to our house exceed what they have set as the budget for new residential installs. That was why we were getting denied by both companies.

Fortunately Comcast business has a higher budget for new installs & could bring us service, BUT in my area the business service has a data cap of 300GB per month. So what we had to do was let Comcast business do the install, then switch over to residential service so we had unlimited data. Which doesn't make much sense IMO but that is how they charge in Pgh for whatever reason.

I live in Colorado, glad it hasn't rolled out here. (yet). If, and when it goes I'll be forking up the extra $35/per month to bring my bill to $90/mo for 60mbps down/10mbps up. There are simply no other options around us that can meet our needs, and/or get close to these speeds.

Me & my family use about 800GB-1TB per month, sometimes exceeding that. We however do not pay for cable tv. WE use kodi & youtube for our entertainment.

I call bs on that, sorry. Since I actually specifically handle that sort of work all day, every day... TWC does not do anything but set your bandwidth profile. If you're profile is set to 100, you get around 100. If you're set to 300 and getting 100, its something else.

If you're having trouble, and not getting what you should, call support and say you have phone issues. That gets you straight to Tier 3. If you aren't using us for phone, get whoever you can and request a transfer straight to tier 3 and we'll examine whats going on. I would offer, but I cannot take the time to adequately examine your issue unless I'm on a call for it. PM me if you don't feel you're getting proper support and I can get your info to set up an outbound call to you. Benefits of being Tier 3... I can work on whatever I want so long as I'm on a call for it biggrin.gif

Edit: Just noticed you're in NYC and thats one of 2 regions I don't actually have access to. I'm midwest and can get in any account except the Carolinas and NYC. They use separate databases. Still though, call tier 3.

DOCSIS 3 has different amounts of channels to bond. Your modem needs to support that amount and so does your ISP. 100 Mb/s is like 3 channels.

Uhm, couldn't you just use a switch then? I mean that's exactly what I do. My ISP also told me that I need an specific one to run my 500/500 (of course they wanted to sell me that) but since I already got an gigabit switch I'm just using that.

Honestly, the FCC should have the power to mandate that non-Radio-Frequency ISP service cannot have data caps or pricing based on the amount of data used.

If your bits are a commodity like ISP claim, why don't your uploads count to reduce your downloaded amount? Like selling solar power back to the electric company? It's all BS.

Instead of 500 channels of useless garbage, let me pick 50 channels of what I want to watch. Yeah, I know they are doing that, but for the 50 you get, you only save $10-15. I'm not saying if I only pick 1/10th the number of channels total, I should pay $10 instead of $100 ... but dang it, I should save more than what they are doing ... $90 instead of $100 for 50 instead of 500.

This exactly. Until it's 'A La Carte' they're going to keep seeing people 'cut the cord.'

I just need ESPN, HBO and Showtime. With local channels and internet, I'd be set.

That's not TWC doing that. If you're paying for 100Mbps, then that's what you'll get. If you want their 200/20 or 300/20, you need a higher end modem that supports more channels.
