A lot of people act like AMD is this amazing value brand, when history has proven that they too will charge as much as they can.

The thing is, ever since Conroe launched AMD hasn't had a CPU they could charge more than $300 for.

9590 was nothing more than an overclocked 8350, and they charged an extra $700 for it. If you remember the reviews you could get a 4770K or 5930K and outperformed the 9590 for less.

Titan & 5960X are the fastest you can get. Though many will agree the 980TI is the way to go.

If Intel had proper competition, they wouldn't be able to get away with those prices.
False, MSRP is set by AMD. The 9590's MSRP was set at $900 from the get go. A lot of people just have a hard time believing that AMD made such a move.

Well you forget that Scottish dumb ass was still in charge of marketing.

This is actually a signal to a much bigger issue. AMD and it's employees have absolutely no streamlined vision for the company. It seems that the marketing department believes something completely different than the engineers.

Well I can agree there. This isn't an uncommon thing. However this did cost AMD a lot of money.

12 core Abu Dhabi goes for $411 right now. thumb.gif

As for the 9590, I suspect the initial pricing had more to do with balancing the bottom line more than anything. For example, tax right-offs.

I could be wrong, but I don't think AMD Roy was in charge of CPU pricing. He was more in charge of the GPU side of things. And yes, he truly was a train wreck, best move AMD did was close his Twitter account.

That's a server processor though tongue.gif

You could be right, there's also the possibility that those were very hand picked dies, and AMD wanted to charge a premium for them.

Intel can't lower prices or AMD would just cease to exist. If i3s sold for $60 and i5s for $120, AMD couldn't compete on price because they would start to lose money. Even though prices on Intel CPUs are quite high (hell, I paid $130 for my i3, and that's with a discount!) they kinda have to be that way until AMD comes out with something competitive. Just goes to show you how far ahead Intel is, and AMD needs to hit a home run with Zen.

The 9590 was barely available in the market at its original price. Plus, AMD fans, for the most part, know better than to buy a 9590 instead of just getting a cheaper FX and overclocking it. AMD doesn't lock any of them unlike some other company...

That is not an option for Titan. Titan cards are a very different, much higher, level of gouging. But, I will say that the 9590 was a stupid product. Despite that, the 8320E remains a good product in the FX processor line. It will clock just as high as any 9590 and also run at 86 watts at stock. Replacing the weak cooler with a good one could also get even better stock performance with some undervolting (which Anandtech did with their sample, although their testing is less than optimal since it's outside of the case and uses a fairly noisy AIO).

For $110 at Microcenter plus $40 off a motherboard like the UD3P, the 8320E remains a very good value for workloads that will use its cores. When I got mine it was absurdly cheap at $100 plus the motherboard being $133.75 with tax. Seriously... So, yes, I have to laugh a bit when people complain so bitterly about the FX line. If you buy a 9590 because you didn't do your research... well... that's your choice.

wait a second, I never wrote that, something is going on here
