lol Asus support just sent me a link to the same list.CPU's are ES chips.Seller tested them on a Z10PA-D8 board but weirdly they aren't supported on the D16 WS.Not really sure if this board can run any V4's.I have a 3204 BIOS flashed when I had my V3's.I heard that the D8 models that are older than a certain revision just won't boot V4's without modification.I hope that is not the case with this board but wouldn't be surprised. Not sure what to do now.Request a refund?Try a Supermicro X10DAX?or get some V3 chips?

Really frustrated with this board.

Dual E5-2698 v4
32gb (8x4) Crucial DDR4-2400 (CL17)
MSI gtx-980

The machine booted into a windows 10 install one time will not finish booting at this point. Even after CMOS reset.
It wont boot other SSD/HDD OS installs
It won't finish booting a linux USB image
Won't finish booting a win-10 install USB image...

I need help. Anyone know what's up? I find the documentation on this board awful.

Meh, the one time it booted, here's Cinebench R15. 4,276 is alright.

Passmark CPU score was 25,000.

No idea what to do with it at this point. Exhausted every bios option, board jumper & hardware I have. (Wont load with one CPU and one stick of ram also)

Can't speak directly to win10 - I actually have only run it with a disk from another machine already installed.

As for linux + 980, I have had to blacklist the nouveau driver with the 980, 980ti and 1080 or the installation will hang.

When you get to the first screen (grub loader) that asks you if you want to install the distribution, you can usually edit the command line.

On the line with vmlinuz (the kernel), you want to add:
nomodeset rdblacklist=nouveau

This tells the kernel not to load the opensource nvidia driver and fall back to the generic VGA driver. I did this with mine and as above, I've had to do it with ever 980, 980t and 1080 install or it would hang. Once linux is installed, I then installed the proprietary driver from nvidia.

Is logging enabled in the bios? Has the BMC recorded any events? temps look ok in the bios? fans running? All the easy stuff eliminated?

My installation of Windows 10 on this system has been as smooth as butter: E5-2666 v3, Nvidia Quadro K4200, NVME SSD drive. At first I had to install Windows 8 which doesn't have nvme driver built-in and I had to load it when the installation disk asks for it. With Windows 10, this problem doesn't exist. It's running super smoothly. I think your problem resides elsewhere: perhpaps a compatibility issue with your CPU if it is v4 ES; is it?

Bios 3305
1200w PSU that could put up with a 300w CPU and two 450w video cards, so I know it's not struggling with two little xeons.
Cooler fans and pumps are spinning fine (140mm AIO)
Temps report 40c range idling in UEFI

It's stuck doing this:

That's trying to run a windows 10 install USB key (new key from crucial) that boots on another PC.
If trying to boot a pre-installed win10 SSD; it hangs in the same spot and instantly reboots.
Debian on a USB key wont load either.

No idea how it booted the first time no issue and can't do it now. Even after CMOS resets, CPU & video reseating.

I'm joining this club, Built last night so not much time on it yet. The biggest problem is memory, they didn't ship enough so I'm dual channeling both cpu's for now.
unpacking mobopower and fan testfirst post with dual 10 core Xeon E5 2630 V4 on airbuild done win 7 pro. first xtu, need more memory.
first look at running hardware

Try booting from DVD/CD and previous Windows (7, XP)) on a HDD (if you still have one around) to see what happened. ALso try with one CPU at a time. Also minimize your ram modules to 1/2 sticks at a time. You could also find the cheapest E5 v3 cpu around to test it with those cpu's.

Done goofed with this one.
  • Not on site
  • ASPEED GPU driver crashing randomly when DX in use on main GPU thus was disabled
  • RDP Not enabled (thought I had)

Any easy way to get the Aspeed unit back enabled within Server 2016? Booting to safe mode isnt possible that I can tell.

Seems like any of the options will be no easier than enabling RDP - install VNC for example?

Have you tried booting from the on-board VGA and removing the nvidia card?

I had no issue installing win10, linux (provided I blacklisted nouveau) as well as moving a win10 disk from a 6700K.

I did have to go into the bios and change the UEFI mode to load legacy and UEFI drivers. Without that my M.2 is unbootable. I run it now with UEFI on, but keys deleted (so disabled). This allows the M.2 to work, but I don't have to deal with useless cracked UEFI nonsense that has caused me far more headaches than solved problems.

Oh and mine idles quite warm in the bios as well - normally overs around 27-30C package temp with cores at 22-26C under low load. In the BIOS it hangs at 36-38C. Clearly it is running a lot of polling loops rather than making use of instructions and P-states that the OS uses to keep things cool.
