Second, Nyarlathotep, is booting off a much older Plextor SSD. - booting Win 7 Home Premium 64bit.

The Plextor is about 8 seconds faster then the Samsung when booting to Windows Desktop, and it runs games faster... for example I have two GTA V copies, with 2 GTA Online accounts, and I can play them both side by side. The Plextor finishes the loading screens roughly 2 seconds quicker then the Samsung does.

How is this possible?

I have no idea, my boots have slowed down considerably since using the 950 Pro. Very strange indeed...

Make sure you're using Full UEFI boot in the BIOS aka. Disable CSM

Has anyone had problems using the Samsung migration program for these drives? Seem to be having some serious issues and I can't tell if its the OS migration to the 950 Pro or the board itself.

Want to post this here as 950 pro slow down the boot..

in the bios change the following for faster boot on M.2 drive..

Boot logo display from auto to Full

Post delay time to 0 Sec

CSM support to Disable..

that should reduce the boot time by 10 sec at least..

that work on my z170 & x99 build.. smile.gif

Can't help but notice that my 950 PRO 512GB is sitting at 50-55ºC on idle now that summer is here, so I am guessing (haven't checked yet) that it's likely throttling while I'm gaming or doing other tasks.

Has any company (or simply Samsung) made any aftermarket kind of cooling for this SSD?

I was planning on adding heatsinks to it, but realized with the 2nd GPU right on top of that SSD, there's simply no space for anything there...

Any solution for this? Worse case scenario, if it won't affect it's lifetime, I guess I can just let it be and keep it running at those temps. tongue.gif

There's a number of air/water cooled solutions, but only for PCIe use of the drive, due to the nature of how you mount the M-2's to the motherboard there's really no options for attaching anything to the drive other than directly attaching by means of double sided adhesive tape or some kind of glue (I just stick my heatsinks with thermal grease).

Disable CSM??

My computer won't boot if that one is disabled.

It just keeps booting straight into the BIOS with it disabled.. and won't boot to Windows.

You have your boot drive formatted as MBR instead of GPT then. When you installed Windows did you select UEFI mode when you booted from the installation media?

Im not quite sure what that means either...

I followed Sean's guides here:
http://www.overclock.net/t/1227308/storage-essentials-thread

- for prepping my old HDD to be cloned to a SSD...

When I installed Windows, I installed it off its original DVD... onto my HDD... I did not see anything called "UEFI mode" in regards to the boot media...

When you pressed a button like F12 for the boot menu and/or went into the BIOS to set the boot device to use that media, you need to select UEFI CD/DVD instead of regular. If you select the compatibility mode Windows will format your drive as an MBR boot partition and you will not be able to use UEFI boot, it will remain in compatibility mode. This is why when you shut CSM off your machine does not boot. What you'll get when you've installed Windows in UEFI mode is a new "boot device" named Windows Boot Manager.
