[Official] Samsung 950 PRO Owners Club - Page 188

Hi, this might sound stupid, but did anybody here who uses the 950 Pro as their system disk ever manage to install any major Windows update (i.e. Anniversary or Creators Update) without running into the issue described here?

Been trying to install the Creators Update (via Upgrade Tool (Windows10Upgrade9252.exe) and USB stick) for days now, but no matter what I do, it always fails after the first reboot and reverts back to the previous build.

All my drivers, firmwares etc. are up to date, my boot records are fine, I removed all kinds of hardware components, but nothing has helped so far.

I installed Creators from a Media Creation Tool ISO (mounted on virtual DVD drive and upgraded with all apps) with the expected annoyances (desktop icons got shuffled, .htm reverted to Edge, device updates back to enabled, etc.) but no real problems.

i want to inform you guys, in case no one here noticed / someone needs help about high DPC caused by "storport.sys".
if you use Samsung's 2.1 NVMe driver, roll it back to 2.0 or Microsoft's NVMe driver. this driver causing a high latency on me and some other peoples!

Thanks for your reply.

So it looks like the 950 Pro isn't the culprit, or at least not the only one.

Long story short, the AHCI implementation on my MB turned out to be the culprit.

I messed around with different configurations a bit, until I found one that worked:

Changed the setting to RAID mode, did clean install of Windows 10 v.1607 (Anniversary Update) via USB stick (had to load the Intel RST RAID driver manually during setup) and the Creators Update installed fine afterwards. Switched back to AHCI afterwards (using the Safemode "hack"). Drivers switched accordingly. Switched back and forth between AHCI and RAID modes several times to make sure that it isn't a one-way street. No boot device related bluescreens this time.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing that knowledge with us. thumb.gif

Found 2.2 of the NVMe driver is listed on the Samsung site but selecting the download link just loops back to another site.
Anybody try it yet and if so any noticeable improvements?
I saw that too.

I found a download: http://www.guru3d.com/files-get/samsung-nvme-ssd-driver-download,2.html

I haven't installed it yet so i don't know how the performance is.
