VRM or PSU issue?

Thread Starter
About the time I bought the shiny BenQ XL2730z, I noticed that my computer would randomly shut down in CS:GO...

I eliminated software as a possible issue, tried all sorts of different drivers and 2 different Operating Systems..

The only two things I can think of that are causing this problem are my motherboard (Asus Maximus VII Hero) or my PSU (Corsair CX750)

at first I couldn't find a way to make a crash happen, but now the internal components must have degraded to the point where I can force it into shutting down when I run furmark and hyper pi at the same time. I was looking at HWmonitor and I noticed that the 3.3v and 5v rails went below useable thresholds just a second before the system shut down.

I have to flip my surge protector off and on in order to turn the system back on. So what do you think I need to fix this problem? Thanks in advance

I never trust software for voltage monitoring, it can give false readings.
for your issue I always connect a voltmeter to the psu.
but from my experience it sounds like your psu is at it's end of life.
how old is the psu?

It's just a year old, I think I'm just going to give the RMA to a friend and just get an EVGA supernova 850, it has better quality caps

Yeah I have a new supernova G2 1000w sitting on my desk for my upcoming new build, they are very nice psu.
though my current corsair ax1200 is 5 years old and running strong, and it ran 2 gtx 580's for 3 years.

The PSU is more suspect than the mobo IMO; it's decent at best. redface.gif

If you don't want to break out a multi meter like jihawn suggested, that's a good idea. Some EVGA PSUs are much better than others, so I'd check here before you buy.

Yeah, one gripe is that they can't take intake air ~40C+ and automatically shut down...I have to wonder if that's what's happening.
