Gaming Chair

I've been looking into getting a new desk chair and was wondering if anyone has some first hand input.

Prices vary greatly, from $68 for the Flash Furniture Chair up to several hundred for a DX Racer.

This site has some pretty good pointers.

Specifically I am wondering if the DX Racer is worth the extra money? Most reviews are very positive, the one thing I noticed that stands out is several people stating the DX Racer chairs being somewhat narrow in the thigh department. I am of average build so my guess is it wouldn't matter, however I do like to have a bit of play and don't want to be wedged into a chair.

Some features that are important to me are, the armrests must be comfortable to rest my elbows, they must be height adjustable, and the back needs to be able to be adjust in leaning. I prefer to sit slightly back-angled than completely straight.

I just bit the bullet on a DX Racer F series. My current chair is a $180 staples chair that's only lasted a year. The padding is pretty well nonexistent by this point on the arm pads and seat, and the pleather material is flaking like crazy. I went to staples today because they have a sale on chairs and none of them seem to be of any better quality than the one I have now. I even saw a post about one of the top quality la-z-boy ones they have that the stitching is giving out on. After alot of research I decided I would go with a Maxnomic (Need for Seat) chair, however with the $329 (USD) pricetag, the $100 (USD) shipping and tax turned into $570 (CAD) which is just absurd. This led me to the next best choice the DX Racer chairs, which came to around $390 (CAD).

They fit everything you want, nice firm foam armrests that will last and not wear out easily, and are adjustable. The chair also leans 180deg all the way back. Just make sure you read their guide on buying so you get the right size/model for your body.

These chairs are really the best thing you'll get unless you want to go all out on a Steelcase or Herman Miller chair.

I've looked at DXRacer at various points over the past couple of years but ultimately have never pulled the trigger because I just can't shake the feeling that there's GOT to be some deep, dark secret behind all the marketing buzz. I've seen hundreds of posts from people that all pretty much say the same thing @InsideJob just did: "I'M SO GLAD I JUST BOUGHT A DXRACER! BEST CHAIR EVAR!!!!!!!" My concern is that I usually say that for the first few months after I spend $150 on a new Staples chair. It's not until I get 8-12 months out from the purchase date and the padding starts to go and arms start to wobble that I start to regret it.

I wouldn't mind shelling out $500+ on a chair if I knew that it would be just as comfortable and just as functional three years from now as it is the day I put it together. What I've never really seen from people who spend $350-400 on a DXRacer is what they think of it after a year or two, and that's what I feel like I need to know in order to justify the cost. Unfortunately that's the kind of information I've never been able to find from DXRacer or NeedForSeat, and it's why I'm much more inclined to buy a chair from, say, Herman Miller or Steelcase, than I am DXRacer.

That's why I said the last part of my other post. I don't have $700+ to spend. $400 was at the absolute most I'd pay and after reading a couple posts on here about the DX Racer chairs from people who've had them over a year, they're still as good as new. I'm a sucker for aesthetics and these car seat style chairs catch my interest. I've not heard anything negative about the chairs from anyone who owns one so it was enough for me. Only time will tell.

Thanks for the replies! After a lot of research I have pretty much made my decision to go with a DXRacer at this point.

@InsideJob: Which model do you have? PU Leather or Mesh? Also, does the seat only recline in two positions (ie completely upright or completely reclined or can you lock it in place in any position? I am going with the Racing series as they seem a bit more roomy.

I got the OH/FE11/NE (Fabric) as it was a decent amount cheaper. I only just ordered it this morning so I hope to have it by the end of the week when I can update further. Or just search DXRacer in the search bar on OCN and you should be able to find the other posts I referred to pretty easily.

The recline feature is multistage.

Just fyi, I've been communicating with DXRacer Customer Service to figure out some of the key differences between the various models. The ones with the 'Conventional Tilt Mechanism'
Quote:
have just one lever under your seat which raises and lowers the hydraulics on your chair

whereas the ones with the Multifunction Tilt mechanism
Quote:
have a second lever under the seat of your chair which also allows you to lock the chair backing in any 'leaned back' position.

This sounds like the 'Conventional Tilt Mechanism' will only allow two positions, fully upright or fully leaned back with nothing in between. Just thought I'd mention it here in case this is important to anyone. It might be a dealbreaker for me as I prefer a chair that allows for increments as far as the backrest is concerned.

That's tilt including the seat (being able to lock the rocking). There's still the tilt function for just the back rest with the lever on the right which is multi-stage.
