EVGA GTX 970 Superclocked GAMING

Thread Starter
i need a new gfx card currently got a 7870xt and i want to play fallout 4 etc on higher graphics settings. i'm restricted by my case (antec 300) and maximum gpu length is 270mm. i have seen the evga gtx 970 sc here:

http://www.ebuyer.com/666210-evga-gtx-970-superclocked-gaming-acx-2-0-4gb-gddr5-dual-dvi-hdmi-04g-p4-2974-kr

but i'm a bit worried about the vram thing, is that going to be an issue with newer games (i game at 1080p)

i was leaning towards getting a r9 390 but they are all too long for my case and i really can't be bothered with the hassle of getting a new case and having to rebuild my pc, advice please?

The MSI R9 390 is 277.114mm so it's just a few mm over your limit. Since the GTX 970 is a direct competitor of this card, though the 390 bests it in most cases, I'd say get it. As a trade off you'll get less heat output and power consumption. Also, how much of a price difference is it for you to get the eVga SSC version of the card?

As far as the VRAM goes, I was in the same boat before I built my new computer. I was torn between the R9 390 and GTX 970. 4GB vs 8GB doesn't really show until you get to higher resolutions but that's not to say games won't start utilizing more VRAM in the future even if the resolution isn't extremely high. I plan on getting a new monitor soon so I took the better safe than sorry route.

The recommended GPU for Fallout 4 is a GTX 780 3GB or 290X 4GB so I guess you could answer your question based off of that. I think the 970 should be fine.
