Changed Domain Name And Wordpress Has Stopped Working!

Thread Starter
I am currently developing a website that has wordpress installed on it.

I recently bought a new domain name for it, and when I removed the name servers from the old domain name and updated the nameservers on the new domain name it has not worked.

I have been busy and left it for 3 weeks, I have come back and it still isn't working.

When I go to The CPanel (my host is sitegrounds) the wordpress theme domain name is still my old domain name, and when I click on the link to visit the wordpress installation or the admin panel it directs me to my old URL which no longer exists so nothing loads.

I have been searching Google for this problem but I can't find any information as to how to get my website working again, I thought when you changed website domain names you would just point the domain to the nameservers and it would work, that's always worked for me in the past, but this time nothing is loading, my webpage just says "Oops! Website currently not available."

Any help appreciated.
Thanks!

You have the proper A record that points to the server hosting your site?

I can't seem to find the A record anywhere. It says on the GoDaddy website that the A record can be accessed in the 'DNS Zone File' tab, but it wont let me into that tab because the nameservers are pointed to a different host (sitegrounds).

The IP address in my cPanel is 181.224.131.221 if that helps?

Sorry, i'm very new to website creation and i'm finding this a little baffling.

I don't really understand because the WP is definitely installed on the server, and the new domain name as far as I can tell points to the server, however, whenever I click on any wordpress links in my cPanel it automatically goes to my old domain name, when I use my existing domain name and put /wp-admin at the end it goes to my old domain name again, which doesn't exist so nothing loads. It's very strange.

cPanel accounts are coupled to domains, so you need to change your account to be associated with the new domain. Alternatively you can add it as an addon domain if allowed by the host, but I'd go with the first option if you're not going to renew your old domain at all (regardless of whether you use it). The server has probably been configured to serve up a default page if it gets a request for a domain that it doesn't know about.

The A record needs to be set in your cPanel account because you've specified in your GoDaddy account that Sitegrounds name servers are the authoritative name servers for your domain. You can change this in your GoDaddy account. The A record should be correct if it hasn't been changed as it will usually point to your shared host by default. Note that any DNS-related changes will take time to be reflected across the net because records are cached for a period of time.

Don't forget that you need to update your WP blog and site URLs as well as any absolute links on your site that include the domain name. WP stores the domain in its database so if you try to access your site before changing this you'll just get redirected to the old domain again.
