TC14PE underperforming?

Got a new tc14pe to replace my d14.

tc14 is 8c higher than d14.

Mounting was a hassle as I screwed one side, the other side would lift up a bit & I had to put some real pressure to get it screwed in.
I had to lift the cooler a bit to readjust.
TIM, less than a pea size.

Bad mount? air bubbles? a bit more TIM than needed?

Of course I'll re mount it, But its 8C, I'm curious.

What is system doing when you are reading this 8c difference?

Many variables involved, but mounting does not sound good. Are PH-TC14PE fans running similar speed to what D14 fans were running?

Air bubbles are a definite maybe, I seriously doubt more TIM is needed. Generally less TIM works better than more.

same system in the rig, just swapped the cooler.
Did a quick ibt 5 runs before swapping.

Only airflow difference is I was using the p14 on the hdd cage to blow on the cooler & cpu.
The rest is the same.

As for the TIM, exactly what I'm thinking, maybe I used a bit more than needed.

Just out of curiosity, unplug / remove the P14 so airflow is exactly the same as it was with D14. I don't know that it will make a difference, but I have seen things like this change case airflow and thus change temps. Air is a fickled witch, and she often does the unexpected. We can usually figure out why the airflow is what it is afterwards, but it can be very hard to predict in advance.

Actually what I meant to say was, I had the p14 with the d14.
I removed it, thinking I'd sell it with the d14.

I tried with the p14, got a 2C drop.

So now its a 6C difference.

I have no idea why you are getting 6c difference. PH-TC14PE has a little better performance than D14, but it's not a lot differnt, espeically if using the same fans on both. Will be interesting to see what happens when you re-seat it. Could you be careful when taking it of and take a pic of the TIM print on CPU and cooler? I would like to see what it looks like. wink.gif

I'm confused too, I was expecting a 2C drop in temps.

It didn't seem too much to me.

Anyways, after re seat, the temps are same as the d14.
I was hoping for better temps than the d14 based on tests & reviews, But I guess these coolers perform the same on amd cpus.

Looks like a pretty good print .. for an Intel CPU. But I have to apologize. I didn't even think about what CPU you had until I saw your mount. redface.gif AMD chips cover a bigger area than Intel, meaning TIM print that covers a full circle on top of IHS is usually better.
Something like the pink circle below may well do a better job.


If our mount screws are not screwing in easy and smooth, just a hint of oil on the threads at base of spring often makes a world of difference. wink.gif Just don't use too much. Just a pin tip dipped into very thin oil, like sewing machine oil.
