Acetone, for sub zero Loop? Corrrsion?

Is it gonna work, heard that it can go up to -89C before freezing up,
Only plorbem is, even if I mix antifreeze, will my waterblock and pump be stuffed up.

Just woundering, cause I might be doing -0Temps or lower if I upgrade and add more peltiers to my loop thumb.gif

Acetone is nasty stuff. I don't know for sure but my gut feeling is that it would eat through the tubing. Personally I would just go with regular car radiator anti freeze. Un diluted it should allow for as much as -50C.

un diluted is too thick and pump will out put very little flow,
Thats why I am woundering if acetone + anti freeze would work or not thumb.gif

I can do a test though dum some anti freeze mix with acetone and dump some copper into it and close the lid biggrin.gif

Acetone has lower viscosity than water, so it'll be less work for the pump. However acetone will eat right through certain kinds of plastic (acrylic and polystyrene most notably), not to mention copper also catalyzes the oxidation of acetone to acetic acid. So yeah just a bad idea in general.

Unless all your parts are made of glass, I wouldn't do it, since it eats thru plastic like candy. You don't need antifreeze in there either unless you live up north and your computer is outside or you are doing a purely water chiller liquid cooling route with no radiators.

Wow... if you're so gung ho, why not try some methyl ethyl ketone or something even more toxic and dangerous.

What about using Methanol...?

Its relatively cheap, just be mindful thst it is somewhat flammable though.... So no smoking next to it.

I'd imagine that's actually a better and safer idea than using acetone...

Well I just tested my water chill tubes. They do not melt on contact with acetone, So i assume if I go Isopprle alcholl I will be fine. mixed with anti crossion.

I had also tried high percentage of anti freeze which I found out my pump is actually capable of moving.

If my room temps drop from 20to 10C then I will have a plorbem. water temps below 0.

Did you mean methalated spirits? when you ment methanol?

I have a bit of methalated spirits lieing arround

I guess I want to stay away from adding more peltiers? lol tongue.gif

Deffinitly know that I will be able to do at least -10C with anti freeze though.
Just want a higher performance soultion, thats all. lighter and more heat coundtive liquid
