If Gameworks is truly bad news for AMD, then blame the developers for using it rather than NVIDIA for providing it. Developers make the game, they get to choose what goes in and what goes out.

My points are based on 6 years of programming experience. I've not directly mentioned AMD in any of my points. Point 3 goes for ALL GPU vendors, not just AMD.

Boycott every business and then they might change their ways to meet the customers demands instead of suiting their own agenda.

In the past AMD has made significant performance improvements with driver updates for titles with Gameworks so it isn't like it is impossible to optimize for it without the source code. AMD's disadvantage is that they cannot optimize the source code itself to run better on their hardware.

Libraries are critical in most programs today, sure it is almost always possible to get better performance using custom tailored code to implement similar functionality but that is much more expensive and time consuming. Also attempting in-house versions often results in much worse performance unless you have skilled developers and give them plenty of time. Assuming that if they did not use Gameworks the developer would implement their own superior technologies is very unrealistic.

Nvidia does not pay developers to support Gameworks, they simply offer the developers assistance implementing it for free. This is sort of like paying but no checks are written.

I have 13 years of programming experience but I don't know what that means in this context, I have never implemented Gameworks or tried to optimize GPU drivers for a particular game. In my experience good libraries can offer much better performance than anything I could write to accomplish the same task, or they can be significantly worse, it is all down to the particular library, how I use it, how good I am, and how much time I have.

Feel free to boycott over minor features you can disable. rolleyes.gif

If hidden tessellation was the cause of poor performance, than you would have seen Kepler and non GCN 1.2 GPUs perform even more poorly. Since that's not the case (280x > 380) from the benchmarks its hard to see that it's tessellation.

Its probably just lack of drivers from AMD. I'm going to buy a 280x/380x soon and I guarantee by then AMD cards will be back to regular form in the benchmarks of this game.

Pretty much what we all were expecting given the lead NV has with optimization for this game. R9 290 = GTX 770? Sure... Hope AMD won't fail harder and bring us fast update.

Can I ask a couple silly questions here?

1.) When a game developer creates a game , why would they create it to only work good on one brand of GPU's?

2.) Wouldn't it be in their best interest to create a game that runs good on both?

3.) in an instance like this , what is the big plus in making a game perform good on only one brand? Like what did Nvidia give the developer , to have them make the game perform great on their cards , and not the competition?

I'm clueless to this whole mess on why certain game titles do this. You would think that they would shoot themselves in the foot. Make a lot of people a little pissed off?

Exactly, give AMD a month or two and it will be running fine, though without Ultra God Rays. We will have to wait for Volta for those. tongue.gif
