[PCGHW]Fallout 4 in art test with benchmarks for release - Page 32

It is very disadvantageous for Bethesda to do so, because people will put it on Ultra and then complain on various forums that they have problems with the framerate.

Setting graphics to Ultra leaves God Rays to High FWIW.

I also don't really think it's that taxing seeing how a 2.7GHz - 3.5GHz Sandy Bridge + stock 2 yo 780 Ti run it effortlessly at 1200p. Whether the setting actually adds significant eyecandy, I don't know. Haven't turned it off to see what the difference is, but it runs fine with it enabled so I don't see the point of disabling it.

I'm waiting to see if this can just be fixed with a "game ready" driver or if it's AMD's CPU overhead problem.

I compared God rays on low and God rays on high/ultra. No visual difference.

fps in with god rays on high/ultra 45~

fps with god rays on low 60~.

Quite funnily Nvidia even took their Fallout 4 graphics optimization guide down rolleyes.gif

God Rays:
Ultra = x64 Tess
Low = x4 Tess

Visual loss = 0.
FPS = current value + 35 to 40.

I'd prove it but Nvidia removed their God Rays comparison interactive images and their whole Fallout 4 tweak guide on the GeForce optimize website.

I'll need to try this. I was getting MASSIVE FPS drops in forested areas and couldn't figure out why, tried anti aliasing and shadow changes to no avail. Maybe it's the GodRays messing it up. Using 3930k 980ti @ ~2k.

That is a very beefy rig mate. I can't give you any advice on how to put the settings, because your 980 Ti outclasses my 290X in Fallout 4 big time. I have a couple of settings turned down and not all the way up. Do you get fps drops or microstutter? I had microstutter even when my fps were like 80-90 but then I put my framerate limit at 60 in riva tuner and it was smooth.

Put God Rays to Low. No visual loss and 30+ extra frames, even on the Ti. (As proven on one of the benchmark websites). Also, visual loss = 0 as proven on the GeForce Optimize article before it got pulled.

So.... I played FO4 for about 6 hours last night with a single 290x @ 1200Mhz. 4K on Ultra (FXAA, low Godrays) and it was perfectly playable. I really only got FPS drops a couple times right after loading into areas. I feel like if one of my 2 year old GPUs can handle this game at 4K, this thread may be overblown.
