Well the encrypted storage files need to be unencrypted. They always use a non-direct encryption between games. Someone has made a program already for Fallout 4 decompress them. You'll want to move the contents of the Fallout 4 storage files into one compatible with Skyrim. That's the only work I'm thinking is required.

I can do 1080P60 Medium (low God Rays, manually adjusted view details sliders a bit higher) with my system (3.8GHz IvyBridge + Radeon 7950 @ ~1100). Given how this game engine works best at a consistent 30/60 I think the most any AMD driver optimizations could do is let me run with mostly High maybe even some Ultra settings, god rays still low of course (lol Nvidia). Even the lackluster initial performance is not bad for a 3 year old ~$200-250 GPU and good enough to keep holding out for node shrink GPU upgrade.

Wonder how a 980 ti with ultra everything except god rays on low would perform at 4k. With a heavy OC, think it'll average 60fps?

Go into Task Manager set the core affinity disable Core0 for the game.

Talking with people and it remarkably improves the game's performance.

The game wants to put everything and anything on Core 0.

CPU issues seem far more likely with Bethesda.
With high levels of tessellation, yes. Of course we haven't seen without, but regardless of whether there's a front-end limitation or CPU overhead one (or both), I've got a bad feeling about how the card would hold up without Gameworks.

The AMD cpu overhead came into prominence with eurogamer's publishing of AMD's draw calls deficit especially with lower end CPUs. Their recommendation to do away with it was an i5, much less the overclocked i7 that are used in these benchmark reviews. In fact, most of the brouhaha was about the fact that AMD cards will perform lower with real users than in the reviews because they don't test with low end CPUs which are common among the gaming population.

TPU's latest 980Ti lightning review shows the 390X basically on par with 980 at 1080p. So just going 'AMD cpu overhead' doesn't really cut it. Heck, even the eurogamer's analysis wasn't that clear cut, with low end AMD cards and not the price equivalent(with substantially beefier hardware) having similar performance degradation with i3 like the 750Ti and of course AMD have improved it since then.

As for why the 980 would do better while it's AMD who are said to have more cpu overhead is dependant on whether the game is GPU limited on both sides to the same degree.

We already have had a recent game doing poorly on Fury X to the point where it's level with a 970(as in this one),



So which side has the higher CPU overhead there?

I noticed something bizarre happening with the game. I was helping a friend with his game and CCC in the background while the game was running was spiking toward 10-15% cpu usage, but only when the game was running. Not with other games. Just CCC. Something is not right with Fallout 4 and it's more than just what you say. I have a hypothesis that maybe FO4 has some form malware installed with it that causes the CCC to totally go basket case. I also then learned that setting the affinity to the last three cores on the game increased the performance and stabilized the frames.
