also its no big deal. vw has 21b in cash and 18b a yearly profit. and the way german economy works, they can get a whatever loan from deutsche bank, if they really needed it

No big deal? VW profit is going downhill from here on with people having second thought buying a car from them.

except in eu every car maker cheated. in us vw is probably the only one selling diesel, if not you will soon see that other car makers cheated in us as well regarding their diesel cars, as the regulatory ecofreak norms simply cannot be met

its ridiculous to assume vw was the only one to cheat as if we are talking about some korean lowcost competitor who doesnt have access to best tech that is out there, like vw does

there are already rumors about other carmakers, and you have eu carmakers lobby a new version of test, by rising the approved emission levels to surprise surprise, level that was measured by the EPA in us. 4 times the us level, 70% above the eu approved level.

if other carmakers were not on it, they would have burried vw but no, they are outthere lobbying in full strength to increase the approved emissions levels. why? because they also cheated

You over estimate how much people actually care. Pro-tip, they don't. I remember when T-Mobile made a big announcement that one of their partners was hacked and leaked tons of private information. I think I've only had 3 people in a single month actually ask me about that. Out of a couple thousand I actually see in a month.

People are going to care when their vehicles can't pass inspection, or need an expensive new catalytic converter.

Its less then that because not everyone is going to trade in their car for that $2k maybe half of them. Because some people are going to owe more on their car then $2k and why get rid of a car if you like it. Just because there is a small fixable issue? Not everyone cares about MPG or Pollution. It could cost up to $33 billion but I don't think its going to be much higher then that.

That is what the $1k is for. Or it is probably going to be a recalled part so free replacement? They only cost what $500-$800 for a catalytic converter. Which should be free as it should be a recall.

Agreed. I would rather leave it as it is...

Ill be damned if any other country gets this "Care Package" - $1000 here is R14312,80....

That can actually buy a running vehicle here (not a great one but none the less) - but of course the rest of the world will be forgotten, here even WITH the cheat software turned off, VW cars still meet our restrictions... And I doubt the EU will get such a care package ....

He who shouts loudest I suppose hmmsmiley02.gif
