[Fox] Volkswagen to pay $1000 per vehicle to owners - Page 5

I hope they get this fixxed. Say what you will about this scandal, VW can make good cars.
The diesel in question happens to be in the Golf hot-hatch variant. While the petrol version is better in every way, it is the only diesel I know of that is fun to drive (even if there is only power in the last 750-500 rpm redface.gif ) (Don't say Brabus Rocket)
I just wish they were still RWD...

It doesn't work like that.

They significantly cut the power of the cars for the tests (switching the traction control off = the car thinks it's being tested so it cuts the power). With the traction control on, it gets the full power, but also worse fuel efficiency and worse emissions.

This is why VW and others DESERVE to lose their butts.

We've already covered that emissions controls cost miles per gallon in the other thread. Either we keep those standards for EVERYONE or we get rid of them for EVERYONE. If a car company takes it upon themselves to lie and cheat to get around them for their own gain ... then they should be crucified.

Yes they did cheat and it made for a better selling car. As in lower costs of maintenance and better fuel millage, while also being cheaper for VW to produce compared to the competitors. I don't want to get into whether i think doing that was right or wrong.

I'll have to look into it more if you'd like a more intelligent response. As much as I know right now, emissions were reported lower than actual and with tighter emissions comes less mileage.

I read about this a while back, but didn't give it much thought.

True, but I bet they could also make a better selling car by lowing their price by using slave labor, dangerous factories, and dump their toxic wastes into the neighbors back yard too.

Again, if you are going to pass laws that hold everyone to the same standards, then damn it, hold EVERYONE to the same standards ... not just the non-hippie/non-environmentalist car companies.

Let's be real here, if this company was some car made by the Koch brothers, people would be going ape over this.

That's why businesses are hard, you do one thing and then it pisses off someone else. But yes every should be held to the same standards. I thought i remember reading GM tried this also in the past and i think had pretty much the same outcome.

I miss my tank of a Crown Victoria I used to drive.... Well really I miss the part where it looked a lot like a police car (it was before I owned it) and people stayed out of your way and slowed down around you. It was pretty funny sometimes. I was going to move up to a Mercury Marauder but ended up with a 2009 Jetta Sportwagen TDI instead. I'm just hoping VW's "fix" is a buyback or an exhaust fluid system. I really like my 55mpg highway and would rather keep it that way. The car is rated for significantly worse fuel milage than it actually gets because that rating is done with the car in the gimped test mode.

These TDI's actually get 5-10% better gas mileage then whats reported/ rated on the window sticker. So if anything they will get what was originally advertised. Not going to be an issue for VW. I applaud VW for giving the TDI owners something. They could have been like GM which killed hundreds of people with faulty ignitions a $20 gift card. Also the class-action lawsuits will never see a courtroom. As soon as VW pays the fines to the EPA a clause will be included to restrict anyone in the US the ability to Sue. Same thing happened with Toyota, Ford and GMC.

I'd guess at best they would get what the sticker says.
