980 Ti G1 Gaming: Opinions and Overclocks

Thread Starter
I just picked up my G1 Gaming a few days ago and have been playing around with it, I'm really curious to know how other people's experiences are with this card.

My Specs are as follows:
Intel Core i7 4790k @ 4.85Ghz
Cosair Vengeance Pro @ 2400Mhz (16Gb)
Kingston HyperX SSD
WD Black
Asus Maximus VII Hero
RM 850 PSU

I haven't ran benchmarks since the overclock but I ran an Aida64 GPU Stress test for an hour without any issues.
My 3DMark FireStrike score was 15,392 stock out of the box and will probably run again with the overclock soon.

I'm just curious as to what other people are getting out of this card in single and/or SLI configs and what I could expect to get out of it.

These are my FPS's for my games I've played since installing the card (Each game has every adjustable setting set at max, even post processing effects and was ran at a resolution of 2715x1527 @ 60Hz)

Project Cars
Low: 45 (racing in rain)
Avg: 55
High: 65

GTA 5
Low: 80
Avg: 95
High: 111

COD Black Ops 3
Low: 59
Avg: 60
High: 61

Far Cry 4
Low: 58
Avg: 65
High: 80

I also plan on playing some Dying Light, Shadow of Mordor and Fallout 4 with and without the overclock to see how much of a difference it really makes.

I just got mine a few days ago as well. Not really an upgrade yet as I'm coming from 290x crossfire but it's been nice so far and I have a 2nd card coming this week. I was worried about my ****ty ASIC score of 66% but I hit 1500 without any problems using the custom bios on this forum. I flashed the bios as soon as I got the card so I can't say if it helped or not but I sure didn't have to do anything but move the slider to 1500 and it worked great. That actually sealed the deal for me to get a 2nd one as I wasn't sure if I was going to get another g1 or not. Basically just upgraded for hdmi 2.0 and 4k gaming on my 65 inch. I was really amazed at how great batman origins looked at 4k on my tv. I definitely need two for 4k though as I couldn't turn up physx to max with 1 card and maintain 60 fps at 4k even with zero AA.

Temps seem good to me too, I top out at like 73c @ 1500.

I'm staying around 77c but I'm using the stock Bios and my fans never hit 77%. All of my adjustments are with OC Guru II, which I'm not too happy with but oh well. I also hate my case which I think is horrible for air flow and does not serve any purpose other than a place to mount everything. My next case should be this which I think would allow me to control the air flow more and have cool air flowing from the front to back over the card itself, instead of my current case having a big mesh window on the side which I don't think allows for much air flow control in the case itself. It also allows for a plethora of dust to enter the case.

Haha I hate my case too but I can't afford to replace it right now. How many fans do you currently have? I just replaced the crappy side fan that came with my case so now I have 1 side intake, 2 front and 1 bottom. 1 back exhaust and 1 top. I feel like I have a lot of cool air blowing in there so I'm real anxious to see what my sli temps will be. Did you oc it at all? ;D

yea, I'm currently running it at 1544 Mhz and maintaining a stable 90+ FPS in Valley at Extreme HD (1080p) and ~64c. I have 2 intake 120's at the top (but pulling through a radiator), 2 120's in the front and a 120 exhaust in the rear. I used to have a 120 pulling air in from the bottom but it's unplugged and I also disconnected the 200mm on the side.
