Seiki SE42UGT Streaming - Page 32

On my secondary rig I bought a Club 3D to try with my SE42UGT
GPU:2 GTX 780s in SLi
CPU: Core i7 980X
Mobo: Asus Rampage III Gene
Memory: 16 Crucial Ballistix 1600mHz DDR3
4K@60fps IS selectable in the Nvidia Control Panel and it runs just peachy. I did notice my colors were a little weird though.

I got the Club3D 1070 DP to HDMI 2.0 adapter on a PowerColor R9 380. I cannot get this to display anywhere close to 4k. It's stuck at 1080p with the max resolution being 1920x1200. The tech support at Club3D has been less than helpful. Firmware on the adapter has been updated to the latest (came with the latest actually).

Initially, I thought this was an AMD issue but seeing that other AMD users have been able to get this to work leaves me to believe that it is not. The tech support has been more than pushy to isolate the blame on me as to why this adapter does not work and trying to do everything in their power to not ship out another adapter as replacement.

Pixelpatched and CRU. Nothing seems to work to get this out of 1080p. It could be my crappy graphics card as Techgage reviewed my exact card with DisplayPort issues (http://techgage.com/article/powercolor-radeon-r9-380-pcs-graphics-card-review/)

Not sure what to do here and quite frankly I am disappointed that I decided to save a few bucks to go with AMD graphics card yet again.

HDMI 3 in my primary TV has failed I think as no signal is coming through but 1 and 2 work perfectly fine. All three HDMI ports on my secondary TV work just fine.

Sure would be nice to get 4k @ 60hz... Thoughts? I'm thinking to remedy this with GTX1070 during BlackFriday.

I really have not been enjoying the experience of this TV when gaming. First person shooters such as Titanfall are just unplayable.

Even with 1920*1080, in full screen it is choppy and horrible to play. With Third person games or driving, it is a much smoother experience though.

It is so bad, I basically stopped playing games since i bought it.

My config: R9 380 + Club3D DP1.2 to hdmi2 adaptor. Everything in gamemode, and as much processing turned off as possible.

On a side note, when using the built in apps, not being able to turn off the motion assist (soap opera) is very annoying.

Is there any updated firmware for the SE42UGT yet?

It seems to have a hard limit of 60hz no matter the resolution, and drops frames. This to me sounds like a properties setting. Anyone played with the firmware?

I've been in messing with settings in the QMAP area of the service menu. There are a TON of settings in there, most of which I have NO IDEA what they do, but I've been toggling some on and off while playing the 4K YouTube stuff.

I'm pretty sure this tv can look absolutely fantastic with the correct settings applied in the service menu, is there any way to better define what the settings do ?

I'm also pretty convinced this tv can do 4:4:4 at 60Hz, because of all the things in the QMAP menu that seem to refer to different chroma subsampling and how to deal with differences between them.

If you're in the QMAP menu, and you keep arrowing down, there are more and more and more settings. I'm not sure I got to the end of the settings even.

Some of those QMAP settings never seem to save for me. For example, VIP always seems to renable itself, which is a pain in the arse as it makes everything darker than it should be.

For a gaming monitor I eventually caved and just bought a cheap HP 25" inch 1080p screen. (119 IPS 60hz from Best Buy on special at the moment). Not awesome, but a lot more pleasant and responsive to use than the UGT.

Just purchased the SE42UGT, loving it so far on hackintosh with a 980ti and pixel lock path applied.

Only have one problem that I can't seam to figure out how to fix, the built in Nextflix app works great but i find the blacks a little too crushed, I would like to increase the brightness, but picture settings are not available to me when using Netflix. I played with the service menu, but did not see anything obvious i could change.

Any ideas how to fix this?

By the way i calibrated the monitor with Spyder 4 and got a 98% sRGB gamut, not bad at all.

Thanks,

That is an impressive gamut!

I absolutely cannot stand the motion compensation on the Netflix app. Drives me absolutely batty and I have resorted to using a chrome cast device for netflix. I have no idea how or if you can turn it off. The service menu's etc have no impact on it. Much like you can't change the 'black crush' (I suspect that is either the VIP setting, or the reduced color depth doing that. Maybe even the dynamic brightness. If someone could tell me how to look at the code and get it recompiled I'd be willing to give it a go (Java Developer.. so I tinker a lot with stuff). It was a REALLY stupid decision to not allow the user to disable certain features in the apps, *** were they thinking?

One thing I have noticed that if using as a monitor, the very edges disappear. I sit relatively far from it, and it still happens.

Now... if this screen is capable of running netflix, and other apps, it is MORE than powerful enough to get low input lag. I would suggest that this is done deliberately so it can't be used as a cheap responsive monitor. It probably is a 4:4:4 screen as well, but probably held back intentionally by the software. Remember that they sell a 'pro' screen, so they prob don't want to impact sales of that... although I wouldn't buy it as too pricey.. so it wouldn't lose sales for me.

It is horrible to play FPS games on it, but just fine for things like driving sims and third person games.

I just bought a GTX 1070.. so might give the screen a second chance at redeeming itself. (This means I actually have the Club3D adaptor going spare, so if you need one cheap, let me know!!)

I still am using mine as my primary monitor until I can find a FreeSync monitor with big enough real estate to justify the cost

BTW i just upgraded from a GTX 950 which is HDMI 2.0 to a RX 480 HDMI 2.0b and the scaling is much better on this TV.

It took a while to get to work but for some reason Windows 10 doesn't like 4K monitors until you restart like 3 times messing with settings.

1440p is the sweet spot but it scales well in 4k but icons look too small. Once again an issue I feel is related to WIndows 10.
