Looking to update, need some advice

Thread Starter
My current set-up is starting to seriously show it's age and I need some advice as to what would be the safer/more reliable graphics card. I was originally running two XFX 7950 Double Ds but both of those had the vapor chambers literally explode on me. XFX gave me a single 7970 as a replacement but it's starting to have issues and I believe the on-board fans are beginning to die judging from the sound it's making now. Is getting another ATI/AMD card worth it or should I go back to Nvidia?

I've used Nvidia cards in the past and my old rig is still running a 7800 GT/OC even after 15 years. If I should get an Nvidia again, which one? I want something that can support a bunch of monitors (6-8 of them, will settle for 4 or 5), also, my CPU is an old i7-2700 Sandy Bridge on a Z77 Extreme Motherboard, my PSU is modular 750w so I'm not worried about power usage too much.

It's been a while since I've bought a card and wanted to get the community's thoughts on this.

Thanks in advance.

For how many monitors?

btw, i had three 7900 (none xfx) cards i used and sold. still have a 7950 that works flawlessly still but it's an msi. we the same chip . . . it is old but mine at 4.5 has no issue pushing 2 290s. my hawaiis are about two years old - an msi and a gigabyte. no xfx here but not saying they are poor quality.

There may be a GPU that does more but I think the Gigabyte 970 G1 support the most, they have a total of 6 outputs.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it only supports 4 connected at one time (per the specs)?
