[HWBOT] der8auer creates Delid Die Mate

So I decided to create a little tool for safe CPU delidding - I call it Delid Die Mate.

The tool is pretty simple and is based on the vice method. However, CPU and heatspreader are secured inside the tool and can't move. So no risk to damage any part of the CPU

The whole delidding process takes about 1 minute with the tool. In addition you can also glue the IHS back on with the Delid Die Mate. So should be pretty handy for Skylake benchers.

It's also compatible to Ivy Bridge, Haswell and Devils Canyon.

Check out the hwbot post for pics and video.

He hasn't set a price yet, but if it's reasonable I could see this selling fairly well. Looks much safer than razor blade and vice method. Honestly I'm surprised someone didn't do this years ago smile.gif

I'm interested if the price isn't outrageous.

That is awesome. If I wanted to delid a CPU, I would definitely get one of these.

okay this is what we've needed! such a basic tool and appears to work great! no more hammers no more razors. awesome.

silicon lottery charges $50/cpu to delid, so if this thing is less than that (which i don't see any way it would be that much) then its absolutely worth it. you could probably charge a couple friends 10-20 to delid theirs and make all your money back and then some. Might have to factor in the CLU, liquid electrical tape, and glue to re-attach the heat spreader but even still, totally worth it.

i did the razor method on my 3570K and lost dual channel memory and 2 memory slots, and then later did my 4790K successfully via vice method, but it was still insanely nerve racking. Because of this i've been hesitant to do my gf's 4770K, which would really see the most benefit from the delid. with this tool i'll have no problem delidding hers.

can't wait for this to be available!

Looks like it's only going to be available in Germany.

i really hope that's not the case. something like that could get really popular and i'm sure there are plenty of people willing to pay the international shipping.

Great idea and great tool by der8auer, if price is reasonable I will maybe take one.
Thanks bigblock990 for the news.
