I don't understand why everyone is acting like 10/20 is a new and amazing thing on the 6950X. Yes, the processor will be unlocked, but how far will you really be able to take it without a custom loop? I'm sure that since it is already clocked so low at 3.00 Ghz that it must be either heat monster or just unable to handle the higher frequencies.

And also, for the $1,000 or more they are going to charge for this processor, you could just go out and buy an Intel Xeon 2687w V3 on fleabay for the same price or lower and get 10/20 with the same amount of cache and a higher base frequency.

As long as most games run on 2-4 threads this race won't be over.
IPC and Coreclock still play big role in most average tasks.

1: No idea. But one would assume Intel already had these being manufactured months ago.

2: No idea. But I think I like it.

Hopefully this finally means i can pick up an 8/16 core for under a grand as was rumored for Ivy-E's launch. 600 I'll do at my max, but not dropping a grand on a cpu.

To be fair the 5960x also comes with a 3.0ghz base clock and 3.5ghz turbo.

Hmmm i dunno if i would want the 8 core or the 6 core, Dont want the 10 core need my clock speed tyvm

I know that there is plenty of tasks i could use for having moar coarz tho

If i could get 3.9 and 8 cores with low temps on silent air then ill be down for that :3

This is great news, was just about to order a 5820K and Asus X99 WS-E mobo, but rather go ahead with a 6700K and Asus Maximus VIII Extreme now, and pick up a 6850K in March/April next year at beginning of the Broadwell - E cycle.

Big question at that time will be buy the Rampage V Extreme Black Edition OR will Asus replace the X99 WS board for BWE?

They did come out with an updated X79 WS board for Ivy - E so it's very possible they will again for the BWE tick.

Jesus, 10 cores. Right when I thought 8 was extreme. The LGA 1151 socket is small, and I can understand how the LGA 2011/3 was able to fit 6,8, whatever, but how will they fit 10 cores onto that small of a socket?

I think 6800K will cost less than $400.

This will be the chip to keep AMD zen 8 core in check.

6950K replaces 5960X
6900K replaces 5930K
6850K replaces 5820K
6800K to be priced lower = something like how i7-3820 is priced lower than 2600K?

Boost on 5960x is only 3.3 Ghz.

Easily since they're able to fit 22 cores on Broadwell 2011

Same here. Went from 9590 to 4790k. Not going to bother 'upgrading' until 8c16t is in the 5820k price range. Likely I won't be upgrade until cannonlake-e, though, and that's honestly fine for me.
