Logitech g303 or Mionix Castor?

I have to ask this...

I have been using a g502 for a year now and it has been great, but the cable is starting to get worn down where it rubs on my desk and it's a little heavy. Time for a new mouse!

I actually have both mice right now as I've ordered them both from amazon and I will return the one I don't like. From what I can tell....I'm sort of leaning towards the Mionix camp right now, but I figured I should put up a poll to see if I'm missing something.

Logitech g303
+ lighting effects are awesome
+ best sensor on the market
- shape is terrible, very uncomfortable
- I'm pretty sure amazon sent me a used one...

Mionix Castor
+ ergonomics are great, very comfortable
+ lightweight
+ software is easy to use and low key
- thumb position feels a little off...angles inward...not a big deal to the ergonomics though
- second best sensor on the market?
- click delay?

I've read the sensor on the g303 is the best you can get and mionix sensor is second best, but how much does that really come into play? Would I really notice in the long run? Also I've read that the click delay on the mionix is worse than the g303....again will I notice?

Basically it seems like I want the tech in the g303 with the shape of the castor...

Apparently people are getting used to the shape though. For the past hour I've been using it like a claw...still not as comfortable as the castor though.

I got a G303 myself and ive tried getting used to it. You can probably get used to it, but you will never like it. To me it hinders my performance. Stupid shape, never buying Logitech again before they do proper science and not stupid science for no good. I dont see any anatomically good about g303's shape and how it might force your hand to grip it.

Well, people want to get used it since it's more or less a perfect mouse if you can get used to the shape.
It has a beautiful tension system on its clicks(although they are cheap omrons), best sensor(low LOD, high PCS, lowest SRAV, raw feeling), low click delay, onboard memory, side buttons. Mouse feet are bad and some people don't like its cable but both are replaceable. Then there's the common rattling problem but that's not a huge problem either.

And no, sensor isn't that much better. So if you're comfortable with Castor, which has an amazing shape, stick with it.
Only problem I see with it is that Mionix not releasing a proper firmware with lower debounce in the future.

Nobody "gets used to" the shape of the 303, they tolerate it and try to convince themselves it's not that bad (but it is that bad).

I'm pretty much convinced the horrible little thing was some kind of social experiment to see just how much physical torture try-hards will take in order to use a good sensor.

See all the reasons you just listed makes me feel like I should also get used to the shape....such a shame that such a perfect mouse has such an awkward shape....cmon Logitech....

Maybe I can form something to the butt of the mouse to lift it a little so it doesn't feel so awkward...foam or cut a wrist gel or something...

Wow...well just tried a deathmatch in CSGO....I think I might have to stick with Mionix considering just how awkward the g303 is. The sensor is phenomenal...but no good if I can't hit anyone due to not being able to grip the mouse right.

What was Logitech thinking with this shape?! Hopefully a mouse with that sensor comes out with some real ergonomics in the near future.

Yes actually...it seems there is a little smoothing. I'm at 800 dpi. I'm very torn honestly...I've been playing a little more with the g303 again and I have to say the sensor and response from the buttons feels a lot better than the Mionix. The Castor has an almost mushy feel to the buttons, but it does feel comfortable. The sensor is very on point with the g303 though...it feels more raw. If you can get almost a fingertip grip to the g303 it seems manageable.

Very on the fence right now...why can't the sensor and buttons from g303 be in the mionix body?!

The only "r0ach approved" fw is the 3.38 beta which (afaik) is only available for the Avior. Not that it's something that should actually determine your future purchase.

It seems like the poll is leaning towards mionix and my gf along with many of my other friends are all recommending the ergonomics of the mionix... So I'm gonna give it a shot for a while. Although the sensor is better in the g303 my hand is likely to cramp up eventually...

lmao so true....my gf said this is heavy first world problems lol

yeah I'm likely gonna keep the mionix, but if a new mouse comes out in the near future with the 3366 sensor and more ergonomics I'll prob hop on that train

Got used to it too.
That is, until I used it one time and 2 days later my hand hurt real bad. Had to put it away and never touched it again since then.

I don't know what all the hype is about the Castor. My hand size is 17.5 CM and after a half an hour session of cs:go deathmatch the right side of my palm(laying face down) starts hurting...so my guess is, if your palm size is about 19 CM, you should definitely get the castor as your palm is probably big enough to hold the super wide castor.

I am one of the guys who had been on a hunt for a new mouse and just like you OP I have both the Castor and the G303 right next to me right now and I prefer the g303 after 2 weeks of using both because I can actually grip it pretty well without making my palm hurt. I initially tried the g303 over 6 months ago and I absolutely hated it because it made the middle of my palm hurt, plus it had wobbly sensor that'd freak out every time I came to a stop after a fast swipe. I went back to the g303 2 weeks ago to try it out from my local best buy, just in case I wanted to return it quickly(in case it had a wobbly sensor again) and I have to say it is really great this time without any sensor wobble, and I honestly don't know my palm's pain stopped. Maybe I was holding it wrong the first time.

My advice regarding choosing one mouse over the other based on its shape: if you can grip the g303 well after practice and perform just as well or better in the game you play, keep it...
If you're a casual gamer, the castor will probably suit you well. being SMFC/GE(high rank) in cs:go, I need to practice in DM a lot, especially during periods when I don't have much time to stay in shape, which is why the g303 suits better for me because it doesn't cramp my palm even if I play for hours on end

one of the things I do like about the g303 that puts over the top of the mionix is that the left and right button clicks require the same amount of actuation force no matter where you press because of some spring system, so that's cool

This is interesting...but honestly the Mionix is just more comfortable for sure. I do have to give it to the g303 in terms of button responses it's amazing. The sensor is also amazing. But the comfort of the Mionix just outweighs it a good amount. I think if you're a claw gripper or fingertip gripper the g303 can work, but if you're palm or a palm/claw hybrid like I am then it's pretty uncomfortable.

i started holding the castor in a pure claw grip from a hybrid palm/claw but this time I held it so my ring and pinky fingers completely fit in those grooves on the right side and played for about an hour and didn't have any discomfort this time. I will do some more sessions with it tomorrow and write about it here to give some insight. And I agree, the mionix is much more comfortable.
