OCN Classic - Page 34

What do you think of this?
Code:
.fixed-scroll-breakpoint .ui-header-fixed .search-bar-outer {
        visibility: hidden;
}
.fixed-scroll-breakpoint .ui-header-fixed:hover .search-bar-outer {
        visibility: visible;
}
.fixed-scroll-breakpoint .ui-header-fixed #advanced-search-submit {
        visibility: hidden;
}
.fixed-scroll-breakpoint .ui-header-fixed:hover #advanced-search-submit {
        visibility: visible;
}

.search-bar-outer,
.advanced-search-link {
        transition: 2s .50s !important;
}

.fixed-scroll-breakpoint .ui-header-fixed {
        transition: 2s 0s;
        opacity: 0;
}
.fixed-scroll-breakpoint .ui-header-fixed:hover {
        transition: 0.50s .20s;
        opacity: 1;
}

.ui-header-fixed li.profile ul.menu {
        display: block;
        opacity: 0;
        transition: 0s .5s;
        pointer-events: visiblefill;
        visibility: hidden;
}
.ui-header-fixed li.profile:hover ul.menu {
        opacity: 1;
        transition: 0s;
        visibility: visible;
        transition-delay: .22s;
}
.ui-header-fixed li.profile .user-avatar:hover {
        transition-delay: .22s;
}

Adding this code to OCN Classic 1.4.6 does the following:

  • It auto-hides the navbar on scrolldown using a 2-second fade-out in order to provide you with enough time to glance at your Notification Bubbles if you need to.
  • It has a half-second fade-in to the navbar on mouseover with a 20ms hover delay
  • It has a 2-second fade-out when you take your mouse off of the navbar
  • It works with the Theme Enhancement for putting the search bar onto the navbar (always add this Theme Enhancement last)
  • It adds a delay to the Profile Menu so that it doesn't disappear the instant you take the mouse off of it
  • It adds a hover delay to the Profile Menu button so that it doesn't have a hover effect the instant you touch it which I was finding to be annoying.

Do you think this is ready to add to the theme? Or should I live with it for a little while longer to improve it some more? I admit that the search bar on the navbar isn't behaving absolutely flawlessly with this code, but I don't know how to get it to always match the navbar's behavior.

OCN is now completely broken for me. I can't get to PM's or subscriptions. The theme itself is installed and working, the theme completer is not. Says this cannot be installed from this webpage, and just downloads a .js file that I have no clue what to do with.

EDIT:
Nevermind, figured out that Tampermonkey was for some reason disabled or uninstalled. I fixed it. Yay!

OCN Classic 1.4.7 Beta is up for anyone who wants to test it. Please let me know what you think of it!

Left-aligned links to Private Messages and Subscriptions: https://userstyles.org/styles/124302/ocn-classic-1-4-7-beta

Right-aligned: https://userstyles.org/styles/124303/ocn-classic-1-4-7-beta-right-aligned

What's new:

  • The navbar auto-hides when you scroll down with a 2-second fade-out. So this also means that it will fade out if you load a page that puts you at a scrolled-down position, such as going directly to a post using a link. It also means it will fade out on a page reload if you're already scrolled down.
  • When you want to see the navbar again, just put your mouse where the navbar would normally be and it will appear after a 20-millisecond delay and it will have a 50-millisecond fade-in time. The 20-millisecond delay is necessary in order to keep it from being annoying. :)
  • The Profile Menu takes 22 milliseconds to appear when you hover your mouse over the Profile Menu button.
  • The Profile Menu has a 50-millisecond delay before it disappears after taking your mouse off of it.
  • The hover effect of the Profile Menu's button has the 22-millisecond delay as well. This means that the hover effect of the Profile Menu button will appear at the exact same time as the menu when you put your mouse onto the button. Without this delay, the hover effect hangs below the navbar for 22 milliseconds (before the menu appears) and it looks ugly and amateurish - and it can't be fixed with CSS code. In other words, it can't have a clean look like the Forums menu button.
  • The hover effect of the Profile Menu's button disappears the instant you take your mouse off of the Profile Menu to help further indicate that your mouse just fell off the menu. This is helpful for those times when you didn't intend to take your mouse off of the menu.
  • So, when you take your mouse off of the Profile Menu, you have half of a second to get your mouse back onto the menu in order to keep it open. Anything longer is very annoying and the menu begins getting in the way.
  • The Profile Menu fades out along with the navbar (well, mostly) when you take your mouse off of the Profile Menu, but it's not perfect. This fade-out isn't intentional, but I'm ok with it and I also don't know how to make it stop doing it. :)
  • Fully compatible with both Theme Enhancements that add the search bar to the navbar. Let me know what you think of the way it behaves.

Due to the new auto-hide feature of the navbar, you may not need the Theme Enhancement anymore that keeps the navbar at the top!

Also, you may end up wondering if I can get the Search menu to behave the same way as the Profile Menu. I regret to report that it seems to be impossible (even though it looks and feels like it should be just as easy).

Finally, if you have the search bar on the navbar and you're scrolled down and decide to perform a search, you will notice that taking your mouse off of the navbar makes it impossible to see what you're typing because the navbar still auto-hides - but you can keep typing and press Enter to perform your search BLINDLY! lol :) So, even if the navbar hides on you before you start typing due to taking your mouse off of the navbar, you can still type as long as you definitely put the cursor into the search box. I don't know if I can prevent the navbar from auto-hiding when the search box has focus. After all, this is just CSS.

Something new that I could add:

  • Absolutely no hover effect whatsoever when you're viewing a list of threads in "Unanswered" and "New Posts". A hover effect would still be present on threads that you've posted in, and I haven't been able to figure out how to eliminate it yet.

So why do I like this? Because I find this hover effect to be very annoying. :) I don't mind having a hover effect in my list of Subscriptions, but when I'm scrolling through the list of Unanswered threads or New Posts, I find the hover effect to be annoying and distracting.

Would you like me to add this?

Sweet! biggrin.gif

The fade in time is appearing as one second for me, way too slow.
Fade out time also feels way too slow at 2 seconds, especially at the end since it has a bit of "stepping" for the last bit of fade out and looks weird.
The .5 second delay to get back onto the profile menu feels SLIGHTLY too short as well, you might try bumping it up to .75? You could potentially add the fade out effect before it closes too somehow. IDK how though, just an idea.
My search bar with the button disappears suddenly after .5 seconds or so.

Even so, I am loving this, it's the best of both worlds. (No bar vs static bar)

EDIT: Whew! After uninstalling everything and reinstalling in different orders three times I finally got it working! You should put numbers on these for idiots like me lol. (Do I install theme or completer first?)

I can't get white search bubbles left aligned to working for me either. :/ - Still awesome though, keep up the good work! Eventually it will be so good the mods will say "enough! we can't take any more humiliation!" and adopt it as default ... or obliterate it from existance LOL tongue.gif

Thank you! Also, I'd say that 99% of the credit goes to @kenpachiroks! None of this would have been possible if he hadn't stepped in and taken the time to figure all this out. Thanks again, Ken!

I have to admit that I'm very glad you're giving me some feedback because your feedback is the one that I've been waiting for. So, thank you!

Interesting. Something on your end must be screwing everything up for you because I'm not having any issues, and it also never matters which script I install first (either the CSS or JavaScript). I mean, the white notification bubbles work just fine for me with Left or Right-Aligned links and I also can't reproduce any of the other problems you're talking about.

Do you have any CSS or JavaScript installed and enabled that isn't a part of OCN Classic? Do you have any duplicate scripts for OCN Classic enabled?

I think you might have duplicate OCN Classic scripts installed of some kind.

Yeah, I am torn on this 2-second fade-out. On one hand, it's very handy because it provides time to look at the Notification Bubbles when that's needed, but it's also too long otherwise. lol Argh. hehe

I tried all sorts of different fade-out times, and really this is the one that seems to be the best for when you happen to see that you have a Notification Bubble to look at while it's fading away.

And yeah, I hate the very last portion of the fade-out . That's CSS for ya. LOL :)

Oh, and just in case you might think that it would be good to have a delay before the fade-out instead, I tried that and it's butt-ugly on the transition. Do you see how the navbar stays super tall during the transition and then shrinks during the fade-out? With a delay, it stays that tall until it begins the fade-out. So yeah, a delay is out of the question. lol

I did while I was testing this, but that caused it to stay open too long for me and I found that it was sometimes getting in my way (that's why I said it doesn't stay open too long and stays out of the way and never becomes annoying). Plus, the Forums menu is 50 milliseconds and I like consistency because it makes for a professional product. ;) If I could change the Forums menu at the same time, then it would be an easier decision, but they got it locked away in some fancy code somewhere. heh Bastids. :)

So yeah, before I finalized the Beta, I spent a long time testing and testing and testing and testing and testing. :/

Yeah, I admit that it's not what I was hoping for. The only way to get it to perform a nice clean fade-out is to have it match the navbar's fade-out. However, with a 2-second fade-out, that up and down animation that it's doing for some reason (sigh... lol) takes 2 seconds. LOL RAGE! hahahaha CSS is nice, but it's definitely limited.

So this is what I arrived at after testing and testing etc. etc. etc. It's not easy work, but I enjoy it. :)

Thank you!

Yeah, it's really growing on me even though I've always strongly preferred having the navbar there at all times thanks to having the Notifications and their links right on the navbar. I mean, take this moment for example: I am in the middle of writing this post and I have a Notification Bubble that says I have 5 unread Subscriptions, but it's not distracting me and constantly screaming for attention because the navbar is hidden! So I'm able to give this post more of my attention.

Another nice thing I'm finding is, I can have the search bar on the navbar and it doesn't bother me! I normally hate having the search bar on the navbar and so I never enable that script until I need it (and only for the time that I need it and then I disable it right away). The reason why is, that big white box is very distracting for me. Without the search bar on the navbar, the navbar easily disappears from my upper peripheral vision because it matches the background color (#46566B). Of course, with the navbar auto-hiding, it's a very different story! I might keep it this way on my own personal installation of OCN Classic, I don't know. We'll see. :)

LOL thank you. :)

By the way, not to get off topic or anything, but the mods have nothing to do with the way OCN looks. This is all Wikia Gaming. Also, you mean OCN Management. Moderators are just moderators. They're like the police while OCN Management is like the government or something. So, don't blame the mods for the way OCN looks and feels. Blame Wikia Gaming.

I updated the 1.4.7 Beta install to have a slightly shorter fade-out time for the navbar.

https://userstyles.org/styles/124302/ocn-classic-1-4-7-beta

https://userstyles.org/styles/124303/ocn-classic-1-4-7-beta-right-aligned

How is it?

I also wrote this script to fix the current bug in the Forums menu where usernames are linked at the top of it:

https://userstyles.org/styles/124326/hide-the-current-ocn-bug

Edit: I just noticed a potential deal-breaker here for this auto-hiding navbar. If you see something that you want to click and it happens to be right where the navbar would be if it weren't hidden, then you're out of luck unless you scroll so that the item is no longer in that spot. It doesn't matter how fast you are, you will never be able to click the link. The reason for this is, the navbar is actually still there - you just can't see it when it's hidden because it's actually 0% opaque (100% transparent) until you put your mouse up there. That's why this auto-hiding trick actually works.
