Asus ROG Swift PG348Q Worth waiting for? - Page 100

For me personally, I see very little difference between the X34 and PG348Q - As everyone has said they are built on the same panel. The X34 has been out of stock for some time now (aside from 3rd party vendors) as I have a feeling they were waiting for new panels to come in. I expect the second run of the Acer and the Asus to be very similar in performance. I don't care about rear fire speakers in a monitor, both will sound pretty bad regardless. If you take audio seriously, neither will suffice.

For me I am leaning to the Asus for 2 reasons.

1. Availability: I think they will be in stock sooner than the Acer x34 will.
2. Warranty. 3 vs 1 is hard to beat and I will spend more for it.

I don't remember seeing big review sites mentioning Acer Predator X34 problems...

I am putting my view on it, as you can see, my posts say "could" also we only need to know the panel name, so it does not matter if the review website gets "cherry picked" panels, as it will contain the same panel

I've read more issues of it occuring with the X34 than not. Too early to say how the PG348Q will fare, but it's the SAME panel and the SAME tech. It's the SAME GODDAMN MONITOR apart from the way it looks!! Jeez, people seem to lose all sense when it comes to brand allegiance!! There WILL be scan lines on the PG348Q, no doubt about it, not every single one, and there will be some who SAY they have a perfect example but just don't see it... happy days for them... but doesn't change the fact that when you buy, you run the risk. If you aren't happy with your monitor... SEND IT BACK!!

Acer's comment was as follows, and clearly there's nothing they can do about it so Asus won't be doing anything either. If you're not happy, wait until the next gen DP 1.3 ultra-wides... maybe they will be better.

"Scanlines are an effect caused by rapidly changing refresh rate. Variations in the refresh rate create an increased holding time that results in the accumulation of an electrical charge. When this charge is released, it causes small variations in the frame that result in faint horizontal lines.

We certainly appreciate everyone’s patience and the feedback that has been provided by many of you. Unfortunately, this is a side effect for cutting edge technology and while there is not a fix to be applied, we will continue to make efforts to minimize and eliminate these types of limitations in future releases."

Yes exactly this.... they are basically the same thing with the same problems, but people make comments like "set the bar for 21:9" and all this, it is the same panel from LG IPS and the same Gsync module from Nvidia, in a different case with a different OSD possibly some minor differences on the other parts, I do prefer Asus to Acer (except the stupid gamma settings on every ROG monitor), but overall the predator brand and X34 is a big step up from what they were making before,

It is ridiculous how people say things like "set the new bar for 21:9" its the same monitor as the X34 with some minor differences, literally the same panel made by LG and the same Gsync from Nvidia with a different badge and case and possibly some minor other differences inside, X34 already "set the bar for 21:9"... this is the same monitor.

Does anyone have any pics of a PG348Q with scan lines?

There has been no picture of it, also only one person actually has the issue here (other users say they do not have it) will need to try mine on Tuesday

This is exactly, what I'm also thinking, that the second run of the Predator X34 will be very similar with PG348Q...

Acer stand looks much nicer to my eye than the "transformers" stand in PG348Q (looks kinda childish...)

For the 2 reasons:

1. In Finland (where I live) the Acer X34 will be coming in stock 1 week sooner than PG348Q.
2. Warranty is 3 years for both in Finland, so no difference in warranty for me. (Store confirmed this info, when I asked for warranty differences between X34 and PG348Q)

I am not sure who has the scan lines here

Two people have reported scanlines here... DrMad and windholic. Another person reported them on a French forum

Maybe some of you guys wouldn't be so defensive towards people discussing the issues if you hadn't been hyping up the PG348Q every day for the past 4 months or so. Yes, the monitor you've been waiting for so long has most of the same issues as the X34, deal with it.

Neither are a bad purchase, and as I've personally said I'd get the Asus over the X34 if they had included the gamma adjustment. If that is not a factor for you then I'd learn towards the Asus simply for the swivel adjustment and better OSD. Warranty here in the US is the same - both 3 years. It just comes down to personal preference as I've said before.

I said on this forum, no point asking the French person, unless you speak French smile.gif

I did not see the other post, sorry

Which issues does the ASUS PG348Q still have apart from the scan lines

Will there be a easy way to tell the difference what would be a second run? I only ask because there seems to be plenty of stock of the x34 in the uk at the main retailers but knowing a way to tell they are second batch would be great. More so considering they are nearly 10% cheaper the the pg348q panel. If they perform similar don't mind jumping on it now then waiting for pre orders for this.

Heh both the x34 and pg348qs stands look meh. Give me the clean stand on the 34UC97 or 34UC98 any day biggrin.gif

Dr.Mad does own the monitor. His reports are where that claim is getting parroted from.

To clarify, Dr.Mad didn't say the gamma was bad, he said his PG348Q was more washed out than his x34, less vivid, and less sharp and lacking gamma control to fix that. It is an issue. It is also not correct to say that all PG348Q's will have bad gamma. I'm sure, like the PG278Q that it simply adds to the lottery - this is my opinion. My first swift had a gamma of around 1.7, the second was around 2.1. TFT's perfect review unit with 2.2 give or take didn't magically effect my units or the other units reported to have low gamma in the PG278Q thread on these forums.

Burn the heretics etc, right?
