Overclocking a q9650 - Page 4

Hello again

Well i guess atleast i passed bottleneck spot for this graphic card (gtx 960)

well this was my first overclocking experience atleast my cpu still works xD

I am not so happy with voltage thou frown.gif ... i still want to use this cpu for while and life span concerns me ( this cpu runs on higher voltage on idle than full load which is weird to me )

I wish there was a way to lower it

I am gonna try any overclocking guide that i can find and i dont wanna go higher than 400 fsb because as you said its not the best power supply and main board to do it ( i am still wondering like 400x7.5=3000 is it still count as overclocking ? for cpu i mean )

thank you all for your guides and help and i am gonna update you if i found anything helpful

What clockspeed are you at right now?

Since X5470 and Q9650 are based on the same chip and are equal clock for clock, I figured you may find it interesting to compare it with 4.1-4.2Ghz (I'am running at 4.2Ghz but I have a feeling it's slightly under-performing for me atm, possibly some win stuff in the background, that's why I mentioned 4.1Ghz) as a reference:

Well i would say put the cpu-z priority on high-realtime to find it without background programs

i am on 3.45ghz

Well that's about right then. My scores are about 122.2222...% compared with yours, so 3.45+(3.45Ghz * 0.2222..) = ~ 4.2Ghz.
All good.

glad to hear it biggrin.gif

lol. Well maybe main tab of CPU-Z will help you more, as we have the same E0 steppings.

PS.. Will read through some of your posts and edit this soon...

well i wish mine was x10 too biggrin.gif

my idle volts are 1.312v - 1.320v i had few problems in overclocking such as mainboard and as ppl said powersupply and those hold me down in overclocking

I will just add this as a new post then:

Definitely increase VTT to 1.3V and increase NB voltage to 1.2V. This should at least get you going.

You can't expect to be stable at or much above 400FSB with stock voltages.

Thank you but with what configs ? 400x9 ? i did everything i could but i am gonna try that too

Yes, I would say anything around 400FSB will most probably need those voltages, especially with 4 sticks of RAM.
