The pink chroma test image is still inconclusive with 4:2:2 and 4:4:4 both visible.
So now I'm stumped. Really wish DP had the pixel format settings like HDMI. Any 3rd party software capable of such things??

Since Club3D is an Active adapter, it negotiates with Samsung directly, DP port has no say in it. Unless it sees this adapter as Passive. That may be the case, given you still get 4:2:0 signal, that's why Chroma test shows both values. If you mean seen only RGB options, but not YCbCr 4:4:4 option in GPU CC despite included in the TV EDID Extension section, this again shows inability of the adapter in HDMI2.0 mode to support this signal, so the FW update didn't fix that.

Your adapter seems to be sending 4K@60Hz 4:2:0 signal, so it still works as Passive in HDMI1.4 mode. May be updating GPU drivers would help recognizing it as Active. Or, its likely this adapter is not ready for prime time despite all the buzz. Btw, the noise around this adapter was created by users in anticipation of a product they waited so long for. BUT... once they got the adapter, NO-ONE confirmed with proof they got what they expected. So you're not along, in fact EVERYONE is in the same bot. rolleyes.gif

Make sure to set TV Sharpness to 0 or the number recommended by Samsung for PC Mode, switch Off other image enhancements in both GPU and TV. Try running Pixel Clock Patcher and reboot to lift undue bandwidth limitations imposed by your GPU driver after connecting the adapter.

Hmmm. I did notice something funny when in 60hz mode. The custom resolution utility reports the pixel clock as 0khz and the refresh rate as 1hz, when it reported proper values at 30hz.

60hz:

30hz:

Pixel clock should be at least 497.66mhz @ 60hz. I'll give that pixel clock patcher a try.

Edit:

When I enter 3840x2160@60hz into the custom resolutions manually, the pixel clock maxes out at 400,000khz, it won't let me enter any value higher than that, so we may be on to something.

I confirm this. I ran the pixel patcher as well, and upgraded the Club3D firmware. At 4096 x 2160, I can't select anything higher than 400,000kHz-- but in my case, the XBR65X850B doesn't tolerate a 4K 30Hz signal through the Club3D. However, this could be a limitation of AMD's pixel timing panel. Certainly the CRU (1.2.6) doesn't let me define any 4K resolution.

It's all officially gone over my head, to the point where I just have to say "this set supports 4K at 60Hz at 4:2:0 and no other chroma."

Yep, just did the pixel clock patcher and it didn't change anything, but also DP wasn't on the list of patched connections?

CRU is reporting 594mhz pixel clock @ 60hz.

CRU also says my display has a max pixel clock of 600mhz which should be plenty.

I don't know. For me, I think it's narrowed down to drivers or the adapter itself.

I've read a few forum posts now and the word seems to be that few UHD TV's support 4k60 4:4:4 but I really hope that's not my case. I don't know why my TV would have UHD Color mode if it didn't support 4k60 4:4:4.

Club3D updated firmware, pixel patcher enabled, and Sony XBR-65X850B on "Graphics" mode:

Zoom, hit "Original" button. If that's not 4:4:4, then whatever it is, I'm satisfied with it. ChromaRes is still just solid pink.

Without clearly seen pixel grid or a photo of the entire monitor with this pic shown, its impossible to say at what TV, Windows Display, GPU, and Pixel Viewer scalings this photo was taken. It can't serve as prove of anything, but instead raises questions. I do realize, a cheap mobile phone cam makes it hard to show pixel grid, but... its quite easy to show the entire monitor at large enough image to still see the test pic details.

It's very funny you mention that, as I used an Olympus E-P1 with a $300 Lumix G 14mm/F2.5 ASPH Lens at about 3 inches from the screen. I literally cannot get closer and maintain focal length, much less get the entire screen in the shot at any kind of a resolution to capture individual pixels. This is 4K on a 65" screen. I have no idea how anyone else is doing it in a way to capture pixels without a macro lens at close range.

I do capture individual pixels, as you can see if you click on the Original image and not just rely on the OCN thumbnails and compressed zooms.

The HDMI2.0 chipset used in this adapter is very new. Its quite likely, AMD driver can't negotiate properly signal parameters with it. Since you try to change only refresh rate, Detail Timings should not be affected, so in theory AMD CC should show correct pixel clock, but it doesn't.

Another question it raises: what signal AMD CC is showing in case of an Active adapter: the signal between DP1.2 port and the adapter, or expected signal between HDMI2.0 port of the adapter and display? Both questions need to be asked directly to AMD driver team and Club3D or Wiznet programmers.

CRU utility shows parameters stored in the TV EDID main and extension sections. It just a set of TV specifications, has nothing to do with actual bandwidth in any particular setup. Pixel Clock Patcher can't damage anything in your PC, it just removes undue GPU port limits imposed by AMD driver upon connecting an adapter. As the driver wasn't updated for the new HDMI2.0 chipset, its not surprising it will imposed lower limits in Registry assuming it sees an HDMI1.4 adapter. However, restoring default port limits with Pixel Clock Patcher doesn't lift the apparent driver deficiencies in recognizing HDMI2.0 chipsets. I'm not surprised though, since DP1.2 standard does NOT support HDMI2.0, so the driver devs didn't have to add the ability to negotiate with such chipsets, especially since they weren't available on the market until now.
