[TechpowerUP] Club 3D Intros DisplayPort 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 Active Adapters with 4K-60 Hz Support - Page 20

Well, I really don't care if it's Club3D or Wiznet or Larry's Adapter Emporium... The reason this thread exists is because the Club3D is the first widely available, first to market active adapter for 4K at 60Hz from a DP 1.2 port. This is why we are all currently testing it.

I know this is true as I've been trying to source them for more than a year. Everything prior to this was either passive, or an HDMI 1.4 scam putting out 30Hz at 4K.

I understand that the chipset is sourced from BizLink, it's the chipset they were showing off at CES way, way back in January 2015. That doesn't change the fact that Club3D was first-to-market with it, but that's mostly irrelevant to the discussion. If another adapter comes out this week with the same chipset and does a confirmed 4:4:4, then that's a great data point to have.

To further clarify, Club3D does NOT make any such adapter. smile.gif Its made by BizLink, and shipped to Club3D with their label painted on the plastic case. BizLink also ships the same adapter to other NA distributors, and if they order in large volume, BizLink puts their company label on the case. Sure, same design non-labeled BizLink adapters will soon appear on the market. PS176 HDMI2.0 chipset used in BizLink adapter is made by Parade, and this company develops base firmware that can be customized by BizLink upon distributor requests. So any FW updates are slow, since the NA market TV choice may not be accessible to Parade and BizLink for testing.

So what you're saying then, is that we're testing the capabilities of the BizLink adapter from January 2015 CES and coming up short. That would suck for all other adapters based on this chipset, which is pretty much all of them.

Just ordered the Accell B086B-011B DP to HDMI 2.0 active adapter. Wondering if I should start a separate thread or not. Anybody try the Accell yet?

I think that's likely the same BizLink chipset, so I think it's appropriate to post your experiences here, at least at first. I'm very curious!

I'm one of the odd 4K adapter enthusiasts who are driving this adapter from Intel 4400 graphics. I've reported my experience in this post.

I've just discovered this thread and have now read every post. I had thought that someone in this thread would have listed every brand of 4K 60 Hz 4:4:4 DP to HDMI 2.0 adapter, but I haven't seen such a list. So I'll list them here. By my count, there are five brands that sell a DP converter, an Mini DP converter, or both. I'll list them alphabetically:

  1. Accell B086B-11B (DisplayPort) and B086B-12B (Mini DisplayPort)
  2. Club 3D DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort
  3. Micro SATA Cables in Mini DisplayPort only. The specs and description appear to be identical to UpTab's.
  4. Ultra HDTV, a German brand that claims to have optimized its adapter for Nvidia cards. Ultra HDTV 4K DP adapter on Amazon Germany; Amazon description and reviews translated into English.
  5. UpTab DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort

I have no idea how anyone else is doing it in a way to capture pixels without a macro lens at close range.

I do capture individual pixels, as you can see if you click on the Original image and not just rely on the OCN thumbnails and compressed zooms.

For even closer view of individual pixels you can get a cheap USB microscope from ebay, approx 10$ or so. Works like 640x480 pixel webcam in essence. If it's important wink.gif

These pixels are from Dell U2312HM and ipad 3 knockoff replacement screen. Sure the reso is pretty low but it's good enough to get approx 10 micron per pixel (approx 100 pixels per mm).

I've now received the UpTab DisplayPort adapter. When used to drive my Seiki SE42UGT from my Intel 4400 laptop, it gave me all the same results as the Club 3D: 30 Hz maximum, but now in 4:4:4 color; and unwakeable sleep mode if I close the laptop's lid. I'm beginning to think that it depends less on the adapter and more on one's graphics card--in my case, Intel 4400 graphics on a chip.

I'm about to buy the Accell, but I don't expect that it will let me see 60 Hz or prevent my HP laptop from entering a nonwakable sleep when I close the lid. Heck, i didn't have the latter problem with my HDMI 1.4 adapters. But but those adapters gave me only 4:2:2 color.

I thought I read somewhere that you needed to have the Intel 6000 series iGPU for this to work. I may be misremembering, but that could be your problem.

If the 6000 will work, so should eight other Intel chipsets. From Notebookcheck.net:

5500, 5600, and 6000 (Broadwell): Up to three displays can be connected via DP 1.2/eDP 1.3 (max. 3840 x 2160 @ 60 Hz) or HDMI 1.4a (max. 3840 x 2160 @ 24 Hz). HDMI 2.0, however, is not supported.

510, 515, 520, 530, and P530, 5300 (Skylake): Displays can be connected via DP 1.2 / eDP 1.3 (max. 3840 x 2160 @ 60 Hz), whereas HDMI is limited to the older version 1.4a (max. 3840 x 2160 @ 30 Hz). However, HDMI 2.0 can be added using a DisplayPort converter. Up to three displays can be controlled simultaneously.

In any case, I've made my peace with 30 Hz. I don't game, and what little latency there is, I don't notice it.
