AMD's entire family of graphics cards including the latest R9 Fury X, R9 Fury and R9 Nano have received some pretty hefty price cuts. This is the first round of significant price cuts that we've seen on AMD graphics cards since the introduction of the Radeon 300 series and the Fury series back in the summer.

The good news is that it covers AMD's entire line-up of Radeon 300 series and Fury series graphics cards.

That is pretty good now.

An R9 Fury Vanilla for ~$499 is a solid deal.
This. And even if it is actually a permanent price cut, this just made the margins for AMD even that much worse. Given the market trends for GPU buying, it isn't even like a price cut like this will make a dent in the huge disparity between them and Nvidia. And is only going to cut into their profits. As a consumer, I love this. But as an AMD investor and one who does support them, I hate this.

AMD needs market share right now badly.

These are the prices they should have been in the first place. Anyone in the market for a GPU should definitely pick up a 390

I will keep my money for a while longer. Not convinced I should be investing in AMD when HBM2 cards are just around the corner. I don't buy a card and replace it every 6 months like the majority here on OCN.

Not unexpected at all.
Another Fury X could be in the works for me and finally make the transition to 4k.

Agree absolutely. The strategy is market retention, but they simply must get it first. This is the time to get the market's attention. Your usual customer will tend to buy the same company and/or brand the next generation.

Probably just a black friday initiative. The cherry just got redder, 390 that is.

Some damned good prices in there but that Asus Strix r9-380 2gb for $139 after MIR is the best value GPU for mid level buyers I can remember in a really long time. Thats astonishing value. Imagine how cheap you can build an HTPC rig for better than console perfomance around that card.

Honestly dont bother jumping on this or an nvidia card, next gen is not going to be just a little bump like we have been getting for the last few years. It's going to be the proper leap we have been waiting for, amd is just trying to get people to bite and clear out stock and nvidia will probably try the same soon.

I am tempted to jump on an R9 390 for the added memory, but lets face it, my current 780 is plenty fast for almost every game @ high or ultra. Even on my new 3440x1440 Ultrawide monitor, I can still play Battlefront @ Ultra without AA and get 50-60 FPS average.

While tempting, I will probably be holding off a little bit longer. This is definitely a good move for AMD, though. Just hate that their profit margins are probably nil now.

Lets say they gain 20% share from nvidia because of the price cuts, for new GPUs released until the summer.
So their revenue will be more stable, they will get more money.

The problem is that once the next gen comes out, what will happen? Will AMD keep that share of the market? Because owning a Fury X will not prevent someone from buying a titan X2 or a 1080 TI next time.
So gaining even 20% of the buyers market, will not get AMD rich, and it will not prevent nvidia from crushing then next round (unless AMD brings new really good stuff out, which is the only thing dependent on it).

Basically, it is just to clear out stocks. This will mean that when it is coming close for next gen, big retailers will not return old GPUs to AMD because they couldn't sell them, and AMD will not flat out lose money on them. I think AMD thought they could sell more, there is too much stock, and they just feel it is their only option to clear it (not just fury variations, but the 390X, 380X, 380, etc etc).

I think Fury aka Gemini / X2 will be their ultra high end offering.
