So, what is better all around: the H220x/Glacier 240L or the newer Nepton 280L? Really looking for something around $120, so the H220x is already over my price range. Any other options? Looking for something quiet as well. Expandability is a plus, but not a necessity. I looked at the H110i, but that seems to be a bit basic, or am I wrong.
I've also come across the EK Predator AIO, which seems like the bees knees, but carries a $189 price tag if I can get a price match from my local microcenter, which only has 3 in stock the day before black friday, so I bet they'll be gone by tomorrow.
I'm all a bit confused and out of the 'loop' on modern units, so feel free to drop some tips.
Okay, I'm impatient and ordered the Predator for pickup tomorrow. Seems like the absolute best, and I'll pay a premium for it. Why the hell not, this is overkill.net, right?
Well, I'm talking overkill in the AIO world. Custom loop I'm not ready for or have the time to commit to at the moment. I know you can throw something decent together for not much more than what I'm paying here, but tbh, I'm okay with that.
you can always upgrade a AIO, like netpon 280L or the predator. I had cut those closed loop tubes and used the radator and water blcock to for custom loop
on the 280 nepton haven't used other aios so i won't comment on that
I just picked up a Predator kit last week while binge-upgrading my Linux workstation to Skylake -- the fans are reasonably quiet, but there's quite a bit of pump noise around 30-40% PWM. It's not offensive, but it's definitely audible -- more so than any other closed-loop system I've encountered in the past. Upgradability and construction offset that in my mind, though this may not be the case for everyone. The previous setup was a 3960X w/a Kraken X60 using Cougar fans, which were sufficient for cooling the modest (4.4 GHz) OC and very quiet.
Yeah, so I went to MC today and they gave me the wrong cooler for the same price. The boxes look identical and I didn't even catch on until I got home with it and I didn't want to go back and start over again.
Ended up with an EK L240 Kit. Has a small res outside the rad and everything else looks the same. Guess I could give that a shot as I think it is much more of an entry level watercooling setup vs an AIO, even a Predator AIO.
There are only 3 "AIO" coolers that I would consider using, the H100i, 220-X/240-X, and the predator, so I imo you made a good choice. I use the EK kits and they are phenomenal for the price! A real custom loop in a box with no hassles, but fully expandable and upgradable. An EK kit with an added GPU block is about the cheapest best performing custom loop you can do, besides the predator.
I like the Swiftech 220x and 240x. The only review I see where the predator beat it out was the one EK did them selves. I have even seen the Corsair H110i GT beat it out. I have talked to two guys who have used the predator.. both had pump failures which worried me even more. My cousin has been using the 240x over over 3 months without issue and great temps also.
I've got 2 H60 pumps running in my rig, it'll be 3 years as of January. I've been running them for ~1.5yrs modded with 240 rads and a custom blend of antifreeze/distilled water mixture. Sealed up leak free with new hose and haven't run into any issues since. I haven't even drained and refilled the loops in 1.5yrs+....Still works like the day I got them! They're even the old pre-2013 models...
