Friends PC with A10-6700 also has a GT635 in it... - Page 2

That is pretty pointless. The GT635 seems to be basically equal in performance to the APU. It's tough to find decent comparisons, but a GT640 seems to outperform the A10-6700's APU (8670D). The only benefit you get from the GPU is it has dedicated vram, so your not stealing from system memory. The only real downside is your wasting 35w more.

Seems like a shame they put that card in it.Be cool if it was compatible card with the apu they could be used together in Crossfire

That also confused me, they could have thrown a 5670 (i think that's the one) in there and ran crossfire, increasing the performance by a decent amount. Instead of just wasting money with a side grade.

Still haven't tried, but curious to see if maybe it's something they did with broken APU's that have a bad GPU unit on it? If that's a thing, not sure. Remember how back in the day some of the 3 core processors were 4 core units with a core disabled, and some older graphics cards were actually their better counterparts but with disabled shaders and stuff.

An A10-6700K with a bad GPU unit isn't sold as an A10. AMD disabled the GPU section on such parts at the factory, and they were then packaged and sold as Athlon 760K parts.

If it's identified as a 6700K, then that's what it is. All APU's with bad GPU sections are sold as Athlons.

It's like someone else suggested. HP probably had too many GT 635's lying around, and someone got the bright idea of sticking some of them into these low-margin AMD prebuilts, figuring they could then sell them easier (since they now had dedicated Nvidia graphics--the best!) and tack on a lot more than those lousy 635's were worth to the price. It would have been a typical HP move, and it probably worked.

Probably half of the reason he bought it. Still a shame.
