Looks like I'll be posting a while later. Will follow on your advice and grab a CPU to update with. Thanks!

Why is that a good or bad thing? The power consumption is completely different.

That's like saying i'm disappointed my Pentium 2 that was overclocked to 4.6 is the same speed as my 6700k.

Strange that you couldn't reach BIOS with a discrete GPU.
I was able to do that with my Asus mobo and then install/boot Windows to do the BIOS + Management Engine updates.

Power increases with voltage², it is a physical law, whatever power saving systems added, V² is an important factor.
Thanks to smaller process, voltage can drop, so I'm disappointed that my 14nm i5 default Vcore is 1.262v

On my mobo setting Vcore adaptive < 1.262v does not drop Vcore. I'm wondering if other motherboard can lower Vcore in adaptive mode or if cpu IVR system prevents undervolting in adaptive mode?
Someone here succeed in undervolting in adaptive mode?

Thx Asus11 for trying it first! thumb.gif
Used the 'razor' method on my Ivy years ago, found the 'vice only' more stressfull when applying more and more force. It ended great without any visible damage, approved method!
For info, I pushed the IHS from the arrow side to the point side (bottom to top on the pic), thinking it was the best direction to avoid touching the tiny capacitors and the iGPU die.

which thermal paste did you use?

sorry about late replies

didnt get any notification

also great to see many new Broadwell-C owners!

Np, I should have put a @Asus11 to get you notified.
The chip is still lying on my desk, was debating how to protect the VRMs and now I am waiting for some thermal tape to arrive.
Then I am going with CLP on the die and CLU on the IHS, worked so well with my Ivy (-38°C)!

Did you replace your initial TIM with liquid metal?

Is anybody else running sli video with the 5775c? I have an asus suport question in on this. The cpu is supposed to configure pcie gen3 to x16, x8 x8, or x8 x4 x4. My mobo is stuck on x8x4x4 and the first slot is the x4. just wondering if other mobos/bios can handle the sli x8x8 with this chip?
They are supporting same lanes count as every other mainstream CPU aka 16. smile.gif
post #199 of 2235
My z97 4790k on is running x8 x8 with two 980's in sli . My z97 5775c is running x4 x8 with two 960's in sli. Both the video cards are x16 gen 3. I should get x8 x8 sli on the 5775c. Does anyone else run sli and can check their number of lanes in use ? gpu-z shows it.

That's weird, my 5775c ran at 8x 8x with two 290x's in CFX
