TRUE!

Suppose I'll give my Maximus VII Gene and Trident X DDR3 another refresh before going to 8-core Coffee Lake or Ryzen 2 late next year or 2019 or whenever DDR4 prices are sensible. I hope you guys are right and a fully optimized 5775c will push my 1080 Ti more than my 4.9GHz/4.3Ghz 4790K was able to.

Figured, this is worth a try since framerate smoothness is touted so much as the primary benefit of the L4 cache.

It was a surprising difference for me when I switched. I had 4790k at 4.7 and dual 1080ti.

I'm upgrading to Z97 (MSI Z97M-G43) for OC capabilities and faster RAM. What is a reasonable memory speed to expect with the i7-5775c? Would buying a 2666 MHz kit be a waste?

I got more stability running my 2400 c10 ram at 2133 c9

Haswell/Broadwell-C performance tops up at 2400MHz, beyond that there is a drop in fact. Also, with Broadwell-C it's a bit harder to get it stable at high speeds.

+1. My CPU actually refuses to be stable at 2400Mhz with 32GB total. So i had to drop it down to 2133MHz.

Anyone with an MSI Z97 mind sharing results? Can you OC the eDRAM succesfully? RAM speed/timings and cpu?

I have the Z97M Gaming.

EDRAM is only possible with igpu enabled, but this way negates most of the benefits of the EDRAM for the cpu. Also, max OC is 2000MHz while stock is 1800MHz, not worth the trouble.

RAM speed is quite easy to 2400MHz, you only need to bump VCCSA and VCCIO. Timings you can go quite low with good ram. I have 2x4GB Kingston 2400CL11 and 1x4GB Corsair 2133CL9 at 2400MHz CL9-12-12-24 1T
