I think the Z97MX Gaming 5's garbage VRM system was primarily to blame for that.
ironically since we discussed gigabyte i figured i'd never buy anything from them (i hadnt ever before), i bought a refurb'd giga gaming z97 board for my son to house my old 4790k (needed microATX and z97 are in short supply so i HAD to or else pay twice as much for a ~= Asus) AND I ended up with Gigabyte Aorus 1080ti, which I LOVE. Funny, huh? The Aorus is freaking awesome, though, FOR SURE!!

What exactly are you doing with TDP? Can you show?
It doesnt work on the bios on giga for some reason. You have to remove that throttle somehow.
I am soooo glad you didnt get a dog after taking my advice to switch, Palote. Instead you got the best one in the whole thread! Hope it works out as well for you, Benny. The good thing about these is besides benchmark epeen, if you do get a lesser chip lottery wise it isn't too bad b/c the cache is the same regardless and that's where the magic happens. Remember that, Benny. Because you came from a golden chip you have the potential for a letdown if you concentrate too hard on the numbers. Remember there's ONLY ONE REAL number that matters: FPS in games. Edited by Slackaveli - 4/7/17 at 5:25pm
