And even if i am stable in stress tests i can get complete random freezes and crashes:(

It happens the same to me. I've somewhat managed to get stable with bios mod, but I still get random crashes at idle. From my experience, those crashes happen when the gpu asks more than 1.32-1.33V. It could be a bad gpu implementation or a crappy binned chip that doesn't stand high voltages.

1.32-1.33v?
Does the chip ever need that much?
On idle it's on 0.900v right?
And other wise it's about 1.2 fluctuating?

But how do you know about the voltage btw?
Cause i mean, it's random crashes right?

For me i can just open a MPC-HC and get a hard freeze (that's what happen latest).
Which was weird as i did many AMD VCE testing and gaming. Then i stopped.
Started a normal recording (software), stopped it, opened the file, and then a total freeze.
It would have made sense if it was before as the GPU was then used,
but for it to crash just cause it needed that tiny up in clock to display a video is just bad.

Though thing i don't know is if my GPU is stable without an OC, cause it's just so unpredictable that this kind of stability isn't even testable.
It can take forever for a crash, and when it happens it's not obvious what caused it.

It also happens randomly to me, web browsing, folder browsing, youtube... but I've found software that prompts the crashes more easily. Paint is one of them, but booting GTA V is the definitive, I even BSOD video_TDR_failure if voltage spike is too high xd. The social club loading little screen is one of a hell of crashes for me, then I have Afterburner next to it reading the voltages (it doesn't read the 380 Nitro).

1.32v is with +100mV.
Well that's quite a difference.
I get crashes with no voltage modification at all;(

Well, then you might need to RMA the gpu. My testing seems to point towards voltage issues. I also had a 380 nitro for a few days and I didn't see those problems, but my 285 is tedious.
It's secondhand, though i could RMA by contacting the guy.
Problem is i am not too sure it's a problem with the card.
Thing is it's so hard to reproduce as it's inconsistent, so i haven't bothered doing without an overclock;p
Cause it was stable for several weeks one time, then it my pc had crashed when i was asleep, which came when i installed MSI Afterburner so i think that was to blame then (no overclock though).
But that would make sense if you look at the timing.

Though i find it weird that no one has problems during normal overclocks with no voltage modification.
Stable in games and such i get though, i seem to be fine there as well.

It'd be much easier to help you if we had any idea what your specs are.

It seems like the rig in your signature is very out of date.

I would wager it's the card itself, but you aren't giving enough details. Do you get a BSOD? Do you get lines on the monitor? Does the whole rig just shut off totally? It's very hard to say what your issue might be, without any of these facts. smile.gif

Everything is correct in the signature except R9 380 instead of 6970.

And well that's the hard thing, it's not anything specific like that.

I don't seem to get BSOD, it's just a random total freeze/crash i think.
So the PC reboots after awhile i guess if i don't do it myself.

Though thing is that it's rare as i said.

I would like to blame MSI Afterburner or something.
But as everyone else overclocks and i guess is fine for weeks doing whatever they do, i get skeptical.

EDIT:

IF all looks fine there, we can look at software.
And if so maybe suggestion on what overclock i should have and how, and what tests etc.

I confirmed the clocks when doing the tests.

I did the exact same tests with Crimson drivers (only the drivers) and Catalyst 15.11.1.
Crimson did not have the Idle->high clock issue.

I also run Heaven Benchmark together with MSI Kombustor Memory Burner (2gb) for almost 8 hours tonight at (1040,1500).
Which i guess i should make the assumption that it's stable. Though i still seem to have had problems at very rare occasions.

Yes ok, it keeps constant mhz up to 1044mhz, if I put at trixx 1045mhz I have between 994 to 1045mhz, or if I put 1100 I have between 1002 to 1100mhz. I don't know if it is a trixx or clockbloker problem.

Not really sure if we are talking about the same thing there.
Those fluktuation you see there sounds like a powerlimit issue.
