Well i don't really use Overdrive, i thought Trixx might use the same system as that's what MSI Afterburner does normally.
And if such it might have explained the weird clocks you get.

But well the Watts are probably the cause for the high PL need indeed.

Just having Overdrive enabled may cause problems with OCs. And AF, trixx or others can cause problems if you don't do what Hedzin says it must be done before flashing.

Thinking about getting some Noctua P12 900rpms to replace the PS07B stock fans.

Nitro 380x and some nitro 380, may have a problem whit Intelligent Fan Control II, some users reports hight pemperatures: https://www.sapphireforum.com/showthread.php?34228-Sapphire-Nitro-R9-380X-Temperatures.

You could test what I say here, it may solve the problem:

Those high temperatures are caused by "Intelligent Fan Control II", tech support say that it is "a mode for quiet using purpose and target the GPU temperature as 76 degree C.
So that the GPU might up to 8X degree C when running in 3D mode. That is a normal behavior and the GPU can up to 100 degree C."

I see at sapphire web site:http://www.sapphiretech.com/catapage_pd.asp?cataid=67&lang=eng that the 380 nitro with 985 mhz and 4gb or 1010 or 1000 and 2gb,have IFC, and that the one with 1010 and 4gb don't have it.

But Sapphire tech support has send my a VBIOS that removes the Intelligent Fan Control II, with a fan mode that is the "legacy setting as other Radeon product lines". With it I have temperatures between 64º to 71º.
And I see at VBIOS with thit bios editor: https://github.com/Hedzin/TongaBiosReader that fan control type is 0 in that bios, but in mine was 1.

Like you can see at thit image, left is tech support BIOS with 00, right is mine with 01: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

So you have these options:

- Do a custom fan profile with AfterBurner or Trixx.

- Go to overdrive driver panel section and change the value "target GPU temperature" to less than 80º, it or lees than 72º may give you thermal throttling.

- Give gpu back to the seller.

- Ask sapphire for that VBIOS to flash.

- Change that value at VBIOS and flash (they say that you lose the guarantee if you have any problem, because it isn't an oficial bios).

- Change that value at windows registry in PP_PhmSoftPowerPlayTable, that is located at [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Cl ass\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0000].

You have to change this 01 of the image to 00: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Then you have to restart windows or restart drivers with RadeonMod, to apply changes.

If you don't have PP_PhmSoftPowerPlayTable you can create it creating a new AfterBurner shortcut and adding /xcl, like is explained here: http://www.overclock.net/t/1387430/amd-how-to-change-the-power-control-limit-from-20-to-50

As your weird clocks.
Remember that the overclocking is messed up most of the time.
If i overclock by default it's like, i have the stock 985mhz, then if i overclock in Overdrive to 10%+, then the clock will be at like 960mhz, which doesn't even make any sense.

Only way for me to get correct clocks are with MSI Afterburner unofficial overclock or bios flash.

You might wana look at MSI Afterburner just for the heck of testing it.

As for PL, i find it a bit weird you need that high of a PL, but for furmark i can kinda get it cause it's a special case.
Though the other issues i probably would try to do the other overclock just to see if that may be the case.

Ok, you are right, thanks, I only have to enable in Afterburner the option "unofficial overclocking mode with PowerPlay support", like is said here: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=404465&page=10, and I have the clock bloked, with + 5PL, and an automatically increased voltage to 1.206v.

I don't see why it wouldn't. My only anecdotal experience is running 380x in Crossfire but it works very well. It's all bridgeless now so it should be a breeze with the right board.

I was gonna say something about this too.

If you have a board that supports Trifire it should work.

All I could find from AMD was this Crossfire compatibility chart. It only lists primary and secondary GPUs and doesn't include 3-way or 4-way Crossfire.

Just make sure all the cards are the same (380X) and it should work. You could probably Crossfire a 380X with a 380 but the cards get reduced to the shader count of the weakest card afaik. This means if you used a 380, your 380X would have less shaders available while in Crossfire (1792, to match the 380).

Obviously you cannot Crossfire a 380X or 380 with anything else that isn't Tonga: no 370, no 200 series cards (except maybe the 285).

If your motherboard supports it you should be good.

I can confirm through mutliple monitoring sources that neither of my Hi-Low Crossfire setups suffers from any negatives other than the usual Crossfire/SLi woes (dev support, game profiles, etc,)
