Even when my 965 has a slightly higher score than my FX6300 when I play BF4 in eyefinity I can clearly see the difference in performance in favor of the FX6300. I used to struggle to play in 64 players servers with my 965. I needed to lower the resolution to get smoother frame rates and that was at 4.5 Ghz and some times that was not good enough but with my FX6300 at 4.2 I get smoother frame rates without downgrading resolution. The one problem that I have is that it seems to be very unstable when adjusting the multiplier so what I have done so far I went back to my BIOS and put everything in auto, multiplier at default 17.5 and increase the frequency to get it between 4.2 and 4.3. So whenever I feel I need more performance I could probably go back and try the multiplier. But what I saw is that some games do not behave good when I move the multiplier, they respond like if you were playing a video an higher speeds.

Well that doesn't sound right. Could be the lack of support for the fx chips but it seems like it might also just be vastly variable frame rates. I know when I have dips into the 20s and then spikes above 60 it seems, because of the variability, that it's sped up.

This shouldn't be happening because of using the multi and again, im leaning on lack of proper fx cpu support.

If you want to pay the shipping plus a few bucks (assuming your close enough) I'll ship you my asrock 970. Still a decent board and will definitely run your chip STABLE at 4.5 (if your getting 4.7 at those volts now) and you won't have any incompatibility problems.

PM if you're interested. The board is just sitting around.

Thanks but my next step is ZEN. Thought not soon enough but until the price goes down. I appreciate the offer any way but like I said I do not think at this point I need more power. I can play in 3 monitors and on stereoscopic mode. I think that I can squeeze it a little bit more if needed. But the next big leap is going to be ZEN. And yes I aslo believe that it could be related to the lack of support but I have not seen something like that from any one running this CPU on an 890FX chipset.

I think that I just got a golden CPU and this mobo is really, really good (890FX). So the combination of those two I guess is what helped to reach those speeds. Cooling solution is liquid based but nothing extraordinary and the room where I have my computer is on A/C all time other than winter.

By the way, the guy who sold me the two other M489GTPRO upgraded to another two identical mobos and use his windows license in their systems. The restriction is only if you change to a different mobo so there you have it thumb.gif

I am about to order a FX-6300 for a M4A89PRO build as an upgrade for a friend - have bios 3029 flashed - might try for a small OC if it needs it - he only will be playing games at 1080

Any thoughts?

I would first go with Asus utility to get the maximum overclocking without the hassle. For 4.2 I am using 1.35 for CPU. 1.18 for NB and 1.5 or 1.55 for Ram @ 230 for the Bus speed. If you are running on Fan I do not know what kind of temp you would be running at. Check for that. If you want to be more conservative you can probably do 4.0. Keep in ind that even if he only plays at 1080 some DX11 games present a challenge for the draw call so the faster the better.

If you want to try the multiplier you can probably be running at 4.5 if you got a good chip however in my experience it seems like the 890FX and the FX6300 multiplier do not get along very well. You may need some tweaking but in my experience some games were behaving odd as I have mentioned.

Thanks smile.gif

So in summery slap in the 6300 quick OC with asus software and then tweak

Keep an eye on vrm and the bridges for temps
