Cooling solutions for Gigabyte r9 390

Thread Starter
Hi guys, id like to ditch the stock fan set up on my 390 cause it sounds like hell. I would like to know which would work and what would be the better alternative for cooling and quiter fans. I was thinking about either a kraken g10 bracket and a corsair h55 rad/fan set up, or an arctic accelero hybrid III AIO cooling setup. I was originally going to use an arctic accelero extreme IV but don't have the case room for it so an AIO liquid cooling set up would be much better for me. So the question is which one would be best to use and if they're compatible with my card?

I've been thinking the same. If i want the G1 r9 390 to run colder i have to blast the fans and it's real loud. Do you know for sure if the Kraken and other similar brackets actually fit?

I messaged the tech support and he said the kraken will not fit because the gigabyte isn't a reference design. But I am almost certain any of the generic arctic cooling accelero models will work

awh that sucks. Guess I'll just be keeping the stock cooler.

Unfortunately same here for the time being unless I get a full tower case and the price of the arctic's going down. I ended up pointing a 140mm fan behind my front intake fan near the gpu so It blows cold air directed to the gpu and that helped quite a bit, it stays under 70c and the fan doesn't get noisey

I emailed Arctic tech support regarding my purchase of an Arctic Accellero Hybrid III-140 for my XFX 290 DD (My post about using it on my 290 is here.) along the lines of is the cooler compatible with the R9 390 since (at the time) they didn't list any 390's in the product description.

What I was told (and I verified this by the photo below) is that the VRM1 Heatsink is not compatible but the GPU waterblock/ram cooling backplate is. What would be needed to complete would be their "generic" vrm cooling kit which would involve using thermal adhesive to hold the vrm heatsinks in place.

As you can see the mount holes near the R9 390 VRM1 heatsink are slightly to the right of the VRM1 heatsink which would not line up with the 290 VRM1 heatsink.

Tis a real bummer coz I thought I would be able to (at the end of my 290's useful life) take the Artic cooler off and return the card to stock form (The original cooler is all boxed up) and just reuse the stuff on my next 390 or 390X. mad.gif

As it says on the website and to my understanding, any of the arctic cooling aio liquid cooling systems should work as long as its the 'Generic' heatsink included. Another member on the site also used the arctic accelero extreme iv on his r9 390 with great success.
