EK releases monoblock for ASUS MAXIMUS VIII Impact motherboard! - Page 2

Getting ready for the M8E monoblock, the psu for the build arrived yesterday so was able to flash the Asus ROG 1202 bios on to bios chip 1. Guessing bios chip 2 is left blank from the factory.

Since this build was originally intended to be X99 and 5820K already purchased the EK nickel plexi X99 specific Supremacy EVO CPU block, and running my old Z77/3770K with the same Supremacy nickel plexi EVO, X99 non-specific sku. So man, I just can't pick up a 3rd EVO. Three of the same?

The Supremacy EVO is $78, the monoblock $140. Will email PPCS Monday about the M8E monoblock, could always reconfigure the X99 EVO block back to Z170 with a few inexpensive parts jetplate, insert, and mounting hardware. Did want to save that for X99 next year, if I ever get to X99. redface.gif

Was planning a Rampage IV Extreme X79 way back November 2011, then Z77 was announced, such a better chipset, so didn't break into the Intel HEDT. This year an exact repeat, planned on X99, then Z170/6700K was a better option for my needs, oh well maybe one day I'll get there. redface.gif

Why does Intel always make the new mainstream performance a more attractive option than the HEDT? headscratch.gif

A few EK parts scattered here and there (and everywhere).

I received my monoblock today and it being my first EK product i am highly impressed with the overall quality. I wont be mounting it for a few months due to time constraints and i still need to plan out the loop in my Lian Li PC-05S. Its sad EK also never released a block for the 980 matrix, Bitspower makes one but i don't want to mix n match. It looks like i will have to wait until Pascal and make the switch or pick up a 980 Ti at some point.

Does anyone know what temperature drop on VRM is expected with this block vs. default heatsink? Especially if the CPU is max. oveclocked.
How hot does VRM become with stock heatsink? I'll have a decent airflow in my CaseLabs S3. So no active cooling of VRM.

I'm at the moment pending between this monoblock (thermal advantage on VRM) and HeatKiller 4 from WaterCool (is esthetically more pleased to me) in combination with this board.
