It's all good buddy. You are allowed to agree with anything you read that makes you feel comfortable in the end. That's what makes us all different. I myself like to believe more of what I do other than what I read. I don't just read things and then state stuff off of what I read somewhere, or think that because a mod said it, it makes it even better. Just because a person is a mod, that doesn't make them superior in knowing things, that just means they want to take the time to be a mod. There are people that go to college that are very book smart and know lots of things because they read lots of things, and then there are people that didn't go to college that have experience building things. Now take those 2 people and have them try to build the same thing and I bet the person that builds things will do a better job for the most part since they are used to building things and he gets it done faster, because the book smart guy is still reading the directions on how to charge the battery on the drill he needs to use to build the thing LMAO.

I'm not saying that anything has to do with anyone that you read on or whatnot, or any of this has to do with anyone specific. All I'm saying is I'm a hands on guy and have put my hands on the things I'm talking about and then sharing my experience of what I seen in person. I have use the NVMe ssd in an Alienware and Asus, a PM951 and Pro 950. Tested the speeds of how they worked and how things went. Felt how my games ran, loaded, performed and seen this with my eyes and did this for a few weeks with each laptop. I've seen good things and bad things. Felt how the OS performed and ran, also boot times and shutdown times. With everything I've done, I gathered my opinions and have started this thread to share for others because I hope that it just helps some people out before they spend money on something and for some reason don't have the ability to return things as I can at a Microcenter that is 10min away from my place. Lots of people that have to order parts online end up keeping them and even if they don't like it. That sucks. I'm also not always 100% correct with some things I say, nobody is really, but I have enough hands on experience that I can make pretty good judgment calls on a few things. I've built well over 500 pc's in the past 10 years and have had my hands on a LOT of pc hardware and many different types, and many of the same parts and seen how different the same thing runs from system to system.

I personally just don't think that its a good time to be jumping on the new tech of NVMe drives yet especially if the laptop or desktop you have can't support the drive that a company made and can't even install the drivers that it's meant to run on. It's kinda the same with all new tech when it comes out really. The first year isn't usually the best time to buy it. The first models are usually the best to buy, but they show you some good signs of what the new tech is able to do eventually once they get all the bugs worked out and everything works right in anything you put it in, hopefully lol. Asus seems to have some issues with the NVMe drives right now, and their tech support has no idea what a NVMe drive is which is not something good for us when we have an issue, and that issue involves $2000 of our money and we end up suffering in the end. I know some of us work VERY HARD for all the money we have and when we spend it on something nice for ourselves we hope that we are getting something that is going to make us happy that we worked that hard to get it finally. When it doesn't work, and we are stuck with a POS paper weight that we regret buying, now that really sucks. I just like to help people out if I can and if it save someone money in the end, or they spend some money on something and it works great and they are happy with it and I had some part of helping them choose the right thing for them, that makes me happy as a person even if I don't know them, or even talked to them. Hell, I don't even have this Asus G752 laptop anymore, but I will still update this thread with info to help those that do have it and maybe I still can help them in some way because I took time to do so. It will also help myself stay on top of tech that is new and whatnot.

Not everything we do is always 5000mb and has to keep writing to the SSD. If the SSD can load enough info into the cache drive and then we use that info the the next while, we can see speeds that do beat the NVMe drive if that info stays in the RAM and doesn't have to keep being written or read off the ssd. Yes in some things the NVMe drive will be faster, but doesn't mean always, but even if it is faster it doesn't mean it's going to be better for us if it's not working the way it should since it's not running the drivers it should. There are many people that have fast gaming systems that get 150fps in games but they have stutters and don't look as nice as some others systems that are only running say 50fps but running smooth as butta. My OS felt very flaky or strange when I was on the NVMe drive in my G752. It just didn't feel right and did strange things here and there. Now on the 850 Evo, things have been a LOT smoother and I feel that it's WAY BETTER hands down and I will be using my system like that because I am very happy with it. Others have said the same thing to me that had the same G752 and the NVMe drives. We worked together to do anything we could to try everything to get the drives to install the drivers right, or even do something that wasn't normal just to try that hard because we really wanted the drives to be good for us. It just didn't happen for some of us and we spent tons of time and got fed up. I guess we can just keep hoping that things get better and sooner than later.

My new laptop has 2 spots for NVMe drives in it and they work properly in this one, and also can be put into a Raid 0 and go even faster. That sounds awesome to me and I will probably do it soon, but I'm really in no hurry because of how nice and smooth things are going right now. I have a 1tb 850 Evo and it's way more than enough space for what I have installed ATM and spending money on 2 NVMe drives right now just doesn't make much sense to me if I'm already happy with everything. Who knows tho, I'm a hands on guy like I said and I will probably spend some money on it just because I like to keep messing with things because that is just as fun as playing a game to me sometimes biggrin.gif .. I can then share more info if needed too. I like to help because if I need help I hope someone would do the same for me someday or sometime.

You can run any benchmarks you want and post some pics. The more the better IMO. I'd like to see ATTO as one if you don't mind. I'd like to see the benchmark in the samsung magician software too if you can run that with the drive. I am able to run that benchmark on my SSD's that aren't Samsungs in my desktop, just can't optimize anything with it. Post some pics and that would be great buddy thumb.gif

I recently bought the G752VT and bought a samsung 950 pro and also not happy with the performance. After having the GT72 for a few weeks are you still happy with it? or would you rather go back to the G752? I have been tossing around the idea of returning the g752 and getting the gt72 . Just unsure as i have not found alot of info on the GT72 and the 950 pro's compatibility.

I LOVE my GT72 !!! There's no way I'd keep the G752 over the MSI GT72, no way at all. This laptop works in every way. It's so much more powerful with the overclockable 6820K, I run it at 4ghz all day long with no issues at all. It gets 875 ish in Cinebench R15 vs only 670 with the 6700HQ. The cooling on this one is insanely better and quieter when on auto. Being able to hit 1 button and the fans go to 100% if you want and then your temps are only mid 50's on both cpu and gpu when gaming for hours. I'll take that over 70-85c + lol.

I haven't put a Pro 950 in mine yet because I've been so happy with the performance of just using my 1tb 850 Evo alone. There's really no need for me to spend more money right now because it's doing everything I want and doing it NOW. I will eventually get a 950 Pro, but only when I just have money laying there that I don't care about.

There is so many other reasons why the GT72 is way nicer IMO as well. The keyboard is way cooler with the lighting effects. Also the layout and how it feels. The audio is in a whole different ball game. There's no comparing that at all. It's the BEST sound from a laptop I've ever heard in my life. You would flip if you heard it after setting it up how you want with the Nahimic Software. You don't even have to think about using external speakers at all, because it wouldn't sound better or louder unless you spent around $100 at least.

Go for the GT72 for sure. Their tech support is AWESOME too. They actually answer your questions and know what the hell they are talking about. That is a Huge plus for me there. I want help when I actually need it. I don't want to spend hours teaching Asus's tech support about their products LOL. If you made the switch, you would be VERY HAPPY you did.

Oh man!! You are going to be very happy buddy!! Just wait. The MSI is such a better laptop in so many ways. I have the MSI GT72 Dominator-019 which has no NVMe ssd's from the factory, and comes with the Gtx970m, but that's exactly what I wanted. 2 years down the road I will get a top end Pascal GPU to replace the 970m. Even if it costs me around $800-1000 USD, it will be better than having to buy a whole new laptop. Also I am very happy with the performance and overclockability of my 6820K cpu so I'd like to keep this laptop I have.

Make sure that when you do a fresh OS install on your 950 Pro, that you go on MSI's website and get the ME driver and chipset driver from them. Do not just go with the driver that windows will load. If you don't install those 2 drivers, your gaming performance will suffer and it won't run that great. I was thinking I made a bad choice going with this laptop at first, but once those drivers were installed, everything ran smooth as butta!! I can't say enough times how much I love my MSI GT72, but once you get your's, I'm sure you will say the same thumb.gif

Once you get it, please let me know what you think and how you like it. One thing to watch for tho, make sure you have a good screw driver that fits in the holes good and it's the right size for the little screws for taking off the back cover. They are a little tough to get if you don't have the right tools. You don't want to stripe any of those out and then not be able to service your laptop ever. Just keep that in mind biggrin.gif

Really?? What else have you tried? There's a Function Key + F2 that will turn on the Monitor > TV > Disabled > Monitor... Maybe it's turned off for some reason? Have you tried to go in the bios? You just can't get anything on the screen at all? I'm sorry to hear about that buddy redface.gif .. That would bum me out as well. It does happen tho with electronics. I've had many things that were dead out of the box. Mostly I buy things locally so I can return right away in person. I won't order certain things anymore because of that. I will never buy a monitor online, or TV. I'm not dealing with a dead pixel issue that I can't return it right then. I will not tolerate a dead pixel no matter what LOL That bugs me the worst tongue.gif ..

Well call MSI or whoever you bought it from and they will take care of you I'm sure. That just sucks tho cuz I know you were waiting for it. How long til you can get another one sent to you? They might help out with faster shipping since this happened.

Tried everything i know to do.. Nothing ever shows up on the screen. I did not try to plug it into a secondary monitor because i figured at this point.. I am not going to keep it regardless. I did buy it at best buy so I have another already ordered . Should be arriving Monday and i will be returning both laptops today and will just have to use my desktop for the next few days.

Hope all ends up good for you. It should tho.

I just installed the 950 Pro NVMe ssd in my GT72 and went with the 512gb model for the faster speeds. It's sick fast now and gets 1500mb/s writes and 2500mb/s reads. Now the 850 Evo is my 1tb storage / game drive lol

Got the new one in and so far so good.. No regrets here .. Since mine came with an Nvme ssd .. I am using the one that came with it for the OS and just using the 950 for my games and such. No issues installing it and loading the drivers.. Everything is nice and snappy.. Alot better than the g752 that is for sure!
