Not sure what model of 290x you are running, but those temperatures are normal for a Hawaii card. You aren't in danger of frying it yet, they don't throttle until 95C.

Its running a bit warm for a non-ref card, but that might be due to the case. The H440 is designed more for water cooling than air cooling. Hawaii cards just run stupidly hot by design, they start to throttle at 95C. I would check your VRM temps though, if I remember correctly some of the early XFX 290 coolers had major issues with VRM cooling.

If the heat and/or noise bothers you, you could always replace the cooler with a 3rd party one (Gellid/Arctic/Etc). There are also brackets like the Kraken G10 and Corsair hg10 which allow you to attach an AIO CPU cooler to the GPU.
