The VR Gaming Thread

2016 will undoubtedly be the Year VR becomes mainstream and thus people actually knowing that VR stands for Virtual Reality and not think its some sort of disease. I have been to many expos and talked to many people about VR and found only a few had tried it and a lot didn't even know what it was. For many they see the sky mask designed headset and see another gimmick that will add nothing to there everyday life. Its another toy that wont get used after the first time, it will collect dust. But once these people tried it they were instantly converted! They were believers, just like Mark Zuckerberg said I must own this after his first try of the oculus rift dk1.
For me this will and is the biggest thing to happen to gaming since....well, ever! The first time I played Elite Dangerous with the Oculus Rift DK2 it was for 16 hours straight. I didnt take the headset off my head. I was using the x55 Rhino Hotas Joystick and throttle and it gave me complete Immersion! Bening able to look out the back of my cockpit to locate an enemy was life like.
I cant wait to see all the games come out this year and to finally have a consumer product to use. I hope plug and play is improved dramatically even though Nvidia and AMD have been trying hard from their end.

So please feel free to share any VR gaming info, help, thoughts, opinions etcs. And hopefully we can have a little community here to help each other and share our VR gaming experiences.

VR Headsets
Oculus Rift - PreOrder Jan 6th 8am PST - Release Date: 1st Quarter 2016
https://www.oculus.com/en-us/

Oculus Touch Controllers - Available 2nd Half 2016! Touch Controllers Delayed!! (Click to show)

HTC Vive - Sometime April 2016

3rd Party Controllers
Sixence Stem - Realease TBA?

Virtuix Omni - Pre-Orders being posted now!

Racing wheels & Joysticks
Logitech G920
This racing wheel is plug and play with Project cars and Oculus Rift DK2. Only issue I had was sometimes your view can be a little far back or too high. But with some Oculus IR camera adjustments and in game settings tweaks your fine.

x55 Rhino Joystick/Flightstick
My favourite experience that is available now is pairing the x55 Rhino Joystick and throttle with the Oculus Rift and Elite Dangerous. If you position your joystick in real world similar to in game world you will get a real sense of immersion. Its uncanny! I love looking at the holographic heads up displays like maps etc. You really do feel like your in a modern space craft.

I cant wait for the OR to come out. Any guesses on the price? I can remember using a VR machine at a local mall in the early 90s. What fun. It will be cool to see how far they've come. Thanks for starting the thread. thumb.gif

With Oculus Touch controllers getting a last minute revamp and thus causing them to be pushed back it becomes a no brainer for me that the HTC Vive wins out.

I love the ability to use my hands in game! FPS games will be so boring once a decent shooter comes out. Half Life 3 will be awesome! Heck Half Life 2 is awesome and it was made like 10 years before VR even reared its modern head! Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Star Citizen will be good. So will Project Cars, EVE: Valkyrie, Assetto Corsa, Doom.

Some of these are already out but will be a lot better with a Consumer VR Headset and dedicated controllers. Once the dust settles after release of all the VR Headsets and Peripherals then we will see the AAA game developers take over from the Indie Developers.
I cant wait to use the Virtuix Omni with some open world game or a game like Doom. LOL we are very lucky to be living in a time to see all this come fruition. smile.gif

What I am really really worried are the exclusive deals. The market will be thin and by making exclusive games to Oculus or Hive it might get tinner.

I think it will be more of an issue with PSVR vs PCVR. Most developers are developing for all headsets.

I'm looking forward to VR as well but I have never gotten a chance to try it. I did get the 3D effect from watching VR videos on the phone with it healed close to my eyes, so I can see how it would be a cool experience with a proper setup.

Right now I'm still trying to decide weather to jump on the Rift preorder when it goes live, or hold off for the Vive. The Vive playroom thing where you walk around doesn't interest me at all. I have no room in my house for such a thing and see no games ever developed for it besides tech demos. The headset looks quite uncomfortable compared to the Rift CV1 design. The Rift ergonomics look much more refined and comfortable than the Vive which is important to me for endurance racing games. Plus every rumor out there says it will cost hundreds more than the Rift. On the other hand, the Rift will come with useless things such as headphones and Xbox One controller, which I already have. So there will be an easy $60 wasted on unused parts If i went with the rift. But I can't help but feel the Rift will end up having better game support and community acceptance over the vive given the speculated prices and the fact the Rift is already out there in mass for game devs to use.

I would mostly be using it for Project Cars and Dirt Rally. Then trying out the improvised VR solutions for other games such as Skyrim, Fallout 4, and F1 2013. I already have Thrustmaster TX with T3PA-Pro pedals, TH8A shifter, and all the wheel addons. So racing games are already quite immersive and I think a VR headset would complete the experience.

3Dvision had a great community where people fixed 3D for many games where developer did not care much.

I am hoping same, or even better community for VR.

Really would kill for Fallout 4 VR experience.
