[Official] VR Gaming - Thread - Page 2

I hope game developers (atleast the good ones) are not investing too much time into VR.
So far it seems like the big ones are waiting on how VR shapes up to be. There is not a real AAA VR games announced (maybe Ace Combat 7? maybe). Most VR games have a fail-safe anyways releasing "normal" versions of the game alongside the VR version / VR being optional.

I don't know a single person (real life) who is excited about VR. Even people I play games with online don't care about it.

Recent news aren't good aswell. Delays, high prices, external modules to power the hardware, big clunky glasses/headwear etc.

I still don't understand the push for VR. We currently have hardware that is barely strong enough for 1080p and in most cases not even that (Xbox One). And now we add a device that needs 2 monitors with a very high framerate to be enjoyable. Moreover VR adds another layer of complexity to the game and the design of it. Most games are so generic that they wouldn't benefit from VR in the slightest and if they really bring a game that shines in VR and implements the VR features in a nice/cool/fresh/innovative way then the game is going to lack depth and substance on its own.

My prediction :

VR won't live up to the hype (which is mostly spread by the manufactures and news sites). It will sell pretty badly and the games will be entertaining for the first 20 minutes and then become boring. I just don't see people sitting with those huge headwear things and completely shutting off reality. Some people are going to buy it and then 1 month later they are probably going to put it in the same box where Google glasses, selfie sticks, Apple watch and Xbox Kinect is thumb.gif

Maybe in the future when the headwear is not as clunky and we can only wear contact lenses or normal glasses to enjoy VR.

VR is sick. I cant wait for consumer products to hit the market!

Its pretty sad ControlVR have basically folded. I backed with their Kickstarter, but I guess they were too slow to get it off the ground and were only fishing for a big fish to buy them up. In the end who wants to put on and wear a suit thing whilst gaming or inside virtual reality doing other stuff. I think the Omni is boarder line acceptable with its harness and shoe system, also not to forget its sheer footprint!

The Sixense Stem potentially could be great depending on compatibility with games. Like I have the Delta Six and although it claims to be a VR gun its no good. But with the Stem I could just strap a sensor pod to allow functional tracking and use the buttons on the gun as normal.

I don't think fun has an upper limit, does it?
I'm in my late 30s and I see no reason not to be excited about VR.

Maybe VR for gaming doesn't excite some but VR for other purposes will. Imagine training fire fighters without having to expose them to the hazards of an actual fire? What about seeing your custom designed home in VR where you can walk around and make modification on the fly and see how they look straight away. What about taking a class room of kids to see Petra or Antarctica without leaving the class room. What r about watching a new release film from your own house.

I see no end for VR. The only limitations is our imagination!

I'm actually also in my late 30s. I posted the picture as warning of how some of us may end up. Probably i will end up looking exactly like that. Yep. Me in 20 years. The world doesn't have enough vices ya see. Lets invent another one. Note to self: don't buy a VR headset.

Also, hatlesschimp, you really make me feel old. Everything you just said about VR was said...about VR in ~1997. And also CD-ROM in ~1991. And the web/internet in ~1996. And the iPad in ~2011. But yes, I'm sure this time technology with fix everything and this time it will be different. Google cardboard could do some of this that stuff. I think.

I don't think I saw a mention of MS Hololense. That I might actually be interested in. Unless I have to buy an xbone to use. Then forget about it. Even if not I will probably have to buy a new PC. Gen 1 of MS products always suck anyway. I'm sure I'll have a new PC by hololense v3.

The Hololens needs a bit more work. Good concept though and should have more practical uses than gaming in the future.

I grew up with Commodore 64, Attari 2600 and a ton of games that could be bought at flee markets second hand. Some how missed the NES and got a Sega Master System lol. First PC was a IBM 486.smile.gif I remember in high school I borrowed my mums mobile phone for the day and it was a Nokia 918 and remember saying to a friend one day we will have a colour screen and be able to watch TV. Not a bad prophercy for 1996 or round then LOL. Imagine what 2030 will be like for tech!
