Hey guys. Quick question for everyone. How is everyone enjoying their VR headset?

I'm considering selling all my consoles and handheld for either a Rift or a Vive. I'm leaning towards a Vive at the moment, but I don't know if I should jump on the bandwagon yet or if I should wait for 2nd gen headsets?

Firstly - question:

How much space do you have for VR - is it your front room with no furniture in the way or the corner of your under stairs cupboard?

Both Rift and Vive offer great VR experiences, but there is a significant drop in image quality compared to a decent monitor.

This isn't going to improve without significant improvements in low persistence high res screens, GPU horsepower and maybe even Foveated eye tracking.

If I had to guess I would expect 2nd gen to come in about 18 months time, (right around the time HTCs exclusive lighthouse licence runs out). It is likely that all 3 of those technologies will be a reality for then, so Gen 2 will be a much better experience.

It's a matter of cash - do you have the money to throw at a hobby or not?

I'm not 100% sure how much space I'll have. We are moving to a new apartment next week, in another state. I could have a whole bedroom 11x11-ish, until our next kid is born (in Dec). After that, I'd guess maybe like a 6x6 space or maybe 6x8.

As far as money, I'm selling stuff to fund the entire thing, or at the very least 3/4 of a Vive.

I got to try a Rift about a year and a half ago at Comic Con, and it was sweet then. I assume the retail version is better. I'm making a trip to a local Microsoft Store, to try the Vive, next week. If the Vive is comfy, I think I'll probably go that route, but still not for sure.

OK - the size you will have in December makes me think you should get the Rift. It has a marginally better image quality and has better ergonomics (lighter / better strap / integrated headphones etc). Also, 3/4 of a Vive cost is the cost of a Rift.

Oculus will release the Touch in October, so you can save for them until then.

The resolution on the Consumer Version 1 (CV1) is much better than the earlier versions.

It is indeed a pretty awesome game. I gets very intense and fun to game with friends also for some teamwork slaying action. I do like the character with the pistol a lot better, or maybe it's because I find the sword character tougher to use or just not good with her, or just need more practice. Downloading the update now and can't wait to try it out.

The Rift is getting the game when the touch controllers release, so it's something to look forward too. thumb.gif

Both VR systems are great, but indeed very different from each other. Going to be tough to get a good response on which one to get here. Rift owners will say get the Rift and the same with Vive owners. I would look at some reviews of people that have had both sets and better yet go demo both of them to see which one is best for you.

You will definitely get a better VR set if you wait for gen 2, but the question is if you want/can to wait that long. I know I couldn't.

Yeah, Touch feels like it's so far away though... At least I have plenty of simulators to play 'til then.

Let me know what you think of the update; it mentioned something about being able to use the sword (maybe the gun too?) when in the middle of a teleport. Sounded pretty awesome.

Damn, sounds like that dash attack could be great if they did it right. I'll definitely check it out. Thanks.

You need to add some white vinyl decals to the front of the rift to math your setup smile.gif
