I think I've come to a conclusion: If I wasn't lucky enough to pick up a Rift during the initial Amazon retail release, I would have caved and bought into Vive by now.

The effect of the supply problems was a real double whammy. Not only is Vive stealing marketshare at a runaway rate, but that Oculus is losing out on the fanboy game. They have plenty of product fanboys, but compared to Vive, they have fewer that actually own it. In short, Vive is converting their fanboys into "evangelists" while Oculus is sitting on a stockpile of merely interested parties.

Add to that the negative social aspects of being labeled an Oculus fan in light of their business practices, and there is limited social support from other Rift owners. Many of them probably hate me for jumping the line by buying from Amazon, as well.

If all that's coming from me, a clearly Oculus-leaning fan, then they are in more dire straits than we want to admit. At this point, I'm holding out hope for Touch and for the better comfort of the Rift to prevail or at least survive into a rough parity with competing platforms.

But I also want to support the company that whipped up all this new interest in VR, rather than the one who played the 1-up game and came to market with a handful of features I'm not as interested in.

I have had my Oculus Rift ordered since early April, along with the Vive. I have been an Oculus fan every since DK1 and have owned every dev kit they released. I hung in there even with the long delays, Xbox controller release, & spyware-like TOS. But I finally had enough of Oculus with their poor business practices when they started bullying the VR market and buying out 3rd party devs just to block the Vive market from getting games, creating a great device in the small and still young VR community. I believe it's because the Vive was selling more units. This is their tactics to get people to buy their product, at the same time screwing everyone else that doesn't own a Rift. Their business practices really pissed me off and they lost me as a fan, I ended up cancelling my Rift order a few days ago. I hope they can change their business practices, but for now they look like the evil/greedy company to the VR community as a whole.

Not going to lie, the Touch controllers look great. You do see the damage control @ 12:27 about their current state of business practices so at least they hear us.

You do know the entire story has been completely debunked right?

(It's complete hogwash)

Oculus have been extremely up front about supporting devs with CASH to make sure the VR marketplace actually has content. Getting it release 3 months ahead of the Vive - is a lot better for Vivers than NOT HAVING THE GAMES AT ALL.

In fact they have been advertising it for YEARS.

As apposed to Valve who have sponsored NOTHING. But still managed to strong-arm Bethesda into AN ACTUAL EXCLUSIVE with Fallout 4.

It baffles me why people listen to these lies.....

Please explain to me how Oculus funding games is a bad thing.

As I understand it, Oculus has offered money to games that are practically done. That certainly looks bad and not like "investment".

BTW, does anyone have an exhaustive list of the exclusive timing per game? If they were all 1-3 month delays, then I really don't understand the backlash as anything but infantile.

Now, in the cases I've seen, there is some wiggle room to interpret the situation. I see two that don't fit the Evil Oculus narrative.

- A dev may appear to respond incredulously and ride the current wave of anti-Oculus sentiment as a way to get more media exposure. It tends to work, especially in threads like these. (I hadn't heard of the Serious Sam VR game until it showed up in this way.)
- A dev, especially an indie dev, may accept the funding to improve the rough edges of their game prior to release, causing a delay that coincides with the release of the Touch. In which case, the dev is labeled a sellout, deserved or not. (Talking about Superhot here.)

Suffice it to say, one such occurrence does not a pattern make, so I hesitate to generalize when the debate has become so political.

A single case, where the dev was on the verge of going bust. so Oculus rescued them.

This is why I don't read "news" anymore - 99% of it is either made up or grossly exaggerated

I had a whole rant about how gaming "journalism" is a joke wrapped in a farce, sliced with a dull knife and served to the infantile 12-25 audience that can't think for themselves.

But I didn't want to offend anyone...

You're starting to sound like Oculus's marketing team man, lol. Total debunked? Nope. I read Oculus statement. All they did is reword and sugarcoated the situation. You can polish a turd, but its still a piece of crap. All you have to do is use common sense to see what is happening here. Lets just leave it at that.

Congrats and nice list you got there. First of all start with the Lab, it has some subtle applications to ease you into room-scale VR. Brookhaven is intense! I would download Waltz of the Wizard also. Its free and is a great experiences. Fireballs coming out of your hands is just crazy. Altspace is another good free one. There are a bunch of other really good ones that i could list, but Steam sale starts next week so i would wait until then to load up on more, you will have plenty to keep you busy until then.

See if you can beat my score of 49K in Space Pirate Trainer. I havent meet anyone that has beat my score yet. I dont know how the global score got so crazy high.

Lets just leave it at that.

Let's not.

If you were using common sense, it would go something like this: Oculus expects a return on their investment. If Oculus puts out money, they should probably get/want something in return. Otherwise, they are just throwing money around for no purpose, a very silly way of doing business.

What I hear is you're unwilling to consider to any viewpoint that contradicts what you already believe. That's not common sense. That's not even genuine indignation. That's just plain vanilla bias.

Here's the question that has to be answered: Was the game going to be canceled until Oculus came around? Was the developer in financial trouble through no fault of Oculus? I haven't seen information one way or the other, but I'm going with innocent until proven guilty.

Since you really can't disprove the narrative that Oculus put out there other than to say "That's something Oculus would probably do, because evil, stupid, Facebook, DRM, Vive's better, Palmer Luckey gave me eyebrow crabs", then the point is still very much up for debate. You're trying to intuit the malicious intent in Oculus' actions by obsessing over the optics and mob supposition, while being light on the facts.

The moment you stop thinking of Luckey breathing through a Darth Vader mask is the moment I start taking your opinion seriously.

EDIT: By the way, who is to say the developers aren't the greedy ones and overstated to Oculus how much they needed to finish their games? I would hope that situation isn't the case, but it's another explanation for those who haven't already closed their minds to reason...
